Building off a report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports the Mets remain in contact with the Pittsburgh Pirates about infielder Josh Harrison.

However, Puma adds that a free agent acquisition is more likely and that may not happen until the bigger names are off the board.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Bucs were interested in Brandon Nimmo in a deal for Andrew McCutchen, but the Mets were unwilling to trade him. There has been speculation Pittsburgh wants the outfielder for Harrison as well.

Harrison, 30, clubbed 16 homers and drove in 47 RBI in 542 plate appearances last year. He also hit to a .272/.339/.432 clip with a 104 wRC+ and .332 wOBA.

The versatile veteran spent time at second and third base as well as all three outfield positions in 2017. However, he spent the most time at the keystone, logging six defensive runs saved (DRS) and a 0.3 UZR in 653.1 innings.

At the hot corner, he spent 341.2 innings and registered two DRS and a 0.9 UZR.

There is one year left on Harrison’s contract, with back-to-back team options for the following seasons.
