jeremy hefner springThere were no extra-inning dramatics in this one – no buck shots either – as the Mets squandered a solid start from Jeremy Hefner in a 3-2 matinee loss to the Dodgers.

Hefner gave the Mets seven solid innings on the mound, allowing just one run on three hits and three walks while striking out three. He didn’t figure into the decision and left with the game knotted at 1-1. The Mets scored their first run on a sac-fly by David Wright in the sixth.

Andre Ethier broke the tie with an RBI single off Scott Rice in the ninth to give the Dodgers the lead and would be charged with another run when Juan Uribe drove in what would prove to be a valuable insurance run on an infield hit off Bobby Parnell.

Ike Davis made things a little interesting when he led off the ninth with a homer to pull the Mets within one, but the team went down quietly after that, losing the game and also suffering their first series loss at home this season.

Like yesterday, the Mets had many opportunities, but went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. In a one-run game, that’s never good.

The Phillies come into town for a weekend series beginning on Friday night at 7:10 PM, when Dillon Gee (1-3, 5.95 ERA) opposes right-hander Kyle Kendrick (1-1, 3.28) for Philadelphia.
