The Mets’ skid continued Tuesday night as they dropped their seventh straight game against the Dodgers, falling 1-2. While the offense was thin on both sides, the pitching was fantastic as Nolan McLean and Yoshinobu Yamamoto duked it out in a classic pitchers’ duel.
After Francisco Lindor‘s leadoff home run to start the game, his first home run and RBI of the season, Yamamoto retired 20 straight batters before allowing a double to Bo Bichette in the seventh inning.
The Mets threatened in the eighth with two men on, but Blake Treinen entered to strike out Luis Robert Jr., who tried to overturn the called strike on a failed ABS challenge.
McLean, meanwhile, had his best outing of the 2026 campaign, pitching seven innings, striking out eight, walking two and allowing one earned run in the first inning via a Freddie Freeman groundout. Like Yamamoto, McLean was nearly perfect, retiring 19 in a row after Freeman’s RBI groundout.
Brooks Raley entered in the eighth, ultimately giving up the winning run on a bloop RBI single to Kyle Tucker.
The Mets went down in order in the top of the ninth, all via the strikeout, to finish the night and send them to their seventh straight loss.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Tuesday night’s player of the game was Nolan McLean. Though he came away with the no-decision, he pitched phenomenally on Tuesday, making it through seven full innings, with just one earned run given up on two hits and eight strikeouts.
ON DECK
The Mets and Dodgers conclude their three-game series on Wednesday. Clay Holmes (2-1, 1.50 ERA, 12 SO) takes the mound for the Mets against Dodgers’ ace and MLB phenom, Shohei Ohtani (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 8 SO). The Mets will once again look to break their seven-game losing streak.
Wednesday is a very special day for Major League Baseball as all teams will wear the No. 42 to honor Jackie Robinson Day. First pitch is at 10:10 PM EST in Los Angeles.
