According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the New York Mets have been in touch with former Marlins and Braves skipper, Fredi Gonzalez, regarding their vacant bench coach position.

Gonzalez, 55, spent nearly four seasons at the helm of the Florida Marlins (2007 to June 2010), going 276-279 and winning the 2008 Sporting News Manager of the Year Award following the Marlins’ 84-77 campaign that year.

Immediately following Bobby Cox‘ retirement following the 2010 season, Gonzalez was named his successor in Atlanta. Over six seasons, the Cuban native led the Braves to a 434-413 record overall, clinching the NL wild-card in 2012 and winning the NL East in 2013 (96-66).

Gonzalez returned to Miami as the Marlins’ third-base coach in 2017 before choosing to “pursue other options” following the 2019 season, as per Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.

Former Arizona bench coach Jerry Narron has also been confirmed as a candidate to take the seat next to new Mets skipper Carlos Beltran, as per Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

We’ll keep you posted with new information as it becomes available.
