Brooks conrad

The Mets have signed major league veteran Brooks Conrad and assigned him to Triple-A Las Vegas. (Adam Rubin, ESPN)

Conrad, 35, has a career .200 average with 19 homers and 73 RBIs in 460 major league at-bats spanning six seasons and five organizations. He also has a career .271 on base percentage.

He is a switch hitter who plays 2nd and 3rd base. He wasn’t with any team to begin the season and spent the 2014 season with the San Diego Padres, playing in 13 games.

The Mets were short of infield depth in Triple-A with Eric Campbell and Danny Muno now in the majors, and T.J. Rivera and Gavin Cecchini still at Double-A Binghamton.

“Plus, we like what he brings to the table and thinks he’s a good addition to the organization.” one team official said.
