The Mets announced on Friday afternoon they’ve signed first baseman Matt Adams to a minor league deal with an invitation to big league camp.

Adams, 31, hit .226/.276/.465 with 14 doubles, 20 home runs, and 56 RBIs in 333 plate appearances for the Nationals in 2019. He also has experience in left field (34 games) and right field (1 game).

Big City leads active big leaguers with 11 pinch hit home runs. Adams is a career .273/.325/.491 hitter against right-handed pitching.

Left-handed hitting 1B/OF Dominic Smith is coming off slashing .282/.355/.525 for the Mes in 2019. He does have options left, meaning he can be sent to Triple-A without going through waivers.
