In just the third start of Wily Peralta’s young career, the Mets were completely baffled and continued to struggle offensively as they dropped this one to the Brewers 3-0.
Chris Young got the nod for Amazin’s and put together a solid effort, despite allowing home runs to both Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez in the fourth and a second bomb to the reigning NL MVP in the sixth. Young finished with a final line of 6 2/3 innings pitched, allowing three runs on eight hits while walking nobody and punching out two, taking the loss while lowering his ERA to 4.37.
As for the Mets bats, there was not much to write home about. They had two hits and a pair of walks, they had a runner in scoring position twice in the ballgame and failed to get a runner to third. Josh Thole and Andres Torres accounted for the only hits while the 3-4-5 in the order combined for a 0-for-11 with five strikeouts.
The lineup continues to be the most glaring issue with this 2012 Mets ballclub. What adds to the frustration to the second half collapse is the fact that the Amazin’s have gotten solid starting pitching, yet waste it with an anemic offense. For me I can’t help but wonder what this team would be like if they somehow retained Jose Reyes. Would he have made enough of an impact to carry this team through the second half?
Regardless, another disappointing loss, and all I can say is thank God for football when it comes to September as a Mets fan.

-Chris Young completed 100 innings pitched for the first time since 2008 today.
-David Wright’s strikeouts continue to mount as he has six in his past three games, now at 104 of them on the year.
-Ryan Braun hit his 39th and 40th homers of the year off of Chris Young, the first time in his career that he has reached the 40-jack plateau.
