The Mets are shopping veterans Carlos Carrasco and James McCann according to multiple reports. Carrasco has been reportedly on the block since the Mets signed Japanese right-hander Kodai Senga to a five-year deal that followed the signing of Jose Quintana and Justin Verlander. Our own Michael Mayer reports the Mets have been shopping McCann aggressively recently and that seemingly intensified after the Mets signed veteran catcher Omar Narvaez on Thursday night.

Carrasco, 35, went 15-7 with a 3.97 ERA, 3.53 FIP, and 152 strikeouts in 152 innings over 29 starts for the Mets in 2022. The right-hander has one season at $14 million left on his contract, a relative bargain given some of the deals we’ve seen this offseason for starting pitchers.

If the Mets were to move Carrasco, they have Joey LucchesiTylor Megill, and David Peterson ready to start the season in the Opening Day rotation. All three do have minor league options remaining allowing the Mets to manufacture pitching depth like they did last season.

McCann, 32, has struggled in a Mets uniform as he’s hit just .220/.282/.328 with a combined 13 home runs and 64 RBI in 182 games. The veteran is owed $12.15 million in each of the next two seasons.

The Mets now have four catchers on the 40-man roster that consists of Francisco Alvarez, Tomas Nido, McCann, and Narváez. The Texas Rangers are one team that previously showed interest in acquiring McCann.
