In the fifth Round, 148th overall, The Mets have selected Nathan Jones, a senior right-handed pitcher from Northwestern State University.

Jones tossed 81 innings, struck out 80 batters and walked 20, while sporting a 2.78 ERA in his 2019 season. Jones was a former catcher who converted to pitcher. Originally a walk-on to the team, he did not generate enough velocity coming out of high school and developed further in college.

Here is a good article on Jones from Designated Writers.

It will likely not take much to sign Jones, as he will sign for way less than the $364,400 slot that the 148th overall provides. The Mets will need to save money from the slot bonus pools in the 4th – 10th rounds to sign the high-priced Matthew Allan.
