Metsmerized Online’s Michael Mayer is reporting that catching prospect Tomas Nido is en route to Miami and could be activated prior to tonight’s game.

Here’s Mickey Callaway talking about the injury, in which he says d’Arnaud first mentioned the elbow pain yesterday.

Update: Mets have confirmed our report and activated Nido. In a corresponding move, the Mets have placed catcher Travis d’Arnaud on the 10-day disabled list.

D’Arnaud underwent an MRI and clinical exam today at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He has been diagnosed with a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.  Treatment of this injury, including possible surgery, will be determined in the next several days.

D’Arnaud, 29, was 3-for-15 this season prior to his injury. He had sat the last two nights.

Nido, 24 tomorrow, had a cup of coffee with the Mets late last season, logging 10 at-bats and recording three hits.  The backstop appeared in 102 games last season for Double-A Binghamton, batting .232/.287/.354 in 404 plate appearances.

Prior to the season, MMO ranked Nido as the No. 9 prospect in the Mets system. Nido is already on the 40-man roster and had an edge over Jose Lobaton who is catching for the Triple-A squad in Las Vegas. He will wear uniform No. 3.
