As we all know, the Mets have come out of the gates with an 9-1 start and the new energy around the clubhouse is one of the major reasons for that. There seems to be a new vibe around the clubhouse.

One friendship that has emerged might be part of the reason for that, as Kevin Kernan of the New York Post details. That friendship is between Todd Frazier and Yoenis Cespedes.

Frazier actually admitted that he had an influence on Cespedes regarding his willingness to hit second in the order.

“I told him look at this lineup with you batting second. He was like, ‘All right, let’s do it.’ ’’

That apparently isn’t the only thing that has changed with Cespedes as a result of his new friendship. Mickey Callaway notices something else regarding the star left fielder.

“Maybe Todd is one of the main reasons Ces has come out of his shell a little bit more this year. In turn that brings everybody else closer together a little bit more.’’

So, just all of that alone should be enough to make Todd Frazier’s addition to the team seem worth it. If Callaway is right about Cespedes’ interest in becoming a true, outspoken leader on this team, then the Mets might really have added two new presences to the clubhouse.

Cespedes has tended to be a quiet player throughout his career, but this year we have already a more outspoken teammate in a positive way.

Many had questioned whether Cespedes would ever take the steps to become a true leader of this team, but it has appeared early on that he might be trending in the right direction regarding that, with Frazier potentially being an influence on him.

Cespedes’ lauded Frazier himself saying the following:

“He is the one player that every team would love to have. His energy is unbelievable.’’

This friendship might end up being the greatest offseason addition of all for the 2018 Mets.
