The New York Mets announced prior to Monday night’s series opening matchup with the Chicago Cubs that they have recalled right-hander Sean Reid-Foley from Triple-A Syracuse, and he will be active for tonight’s game.

Reid-Foley was surprisingly sent down to the minors two weeks ago to make room for Seth Lugo on the roster.

The right-hander has been dominant in his six outings with the big league club this season, posting a 1.98 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 13 innings. He also hadn’t allowed a run, and struck out eight batters over 5 innings with Triple-A Syracuse.

Reid-Foley will certainly be a welcomed addition back to the Mets’ bullpen. He could provide the Mets with some length behind left-hander David Peterson if his struggles continue early on in Monday night’s outing.

In a corresponding roster move, right-hander Jacob Barnes has been designated for assignment.

Barnes, of course, entered yesterday’s game with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the seventh and allowed a go-ahead grand slam to Fernando Tatis Jr.and a solo shot to Manny Machado in the Mets’ 7-3 loss to the San Diego Padres.

Over his six year big league career, Barnes has posted a 4.53 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. He had struggled to this point in the season, pitching to a 6.27 ERA, and allowing six home runs over 18 innings of work, which is good enough for a 2.9 HR/9.
