
The Mets have officially placed Noah Syndergaard on the disabled list and have recalled RHP Paul Sewald from Triple-A Las Vegas. They have also tabbed Rafael Montero as Friday’s starting pitcher.
In eight games for Las Vegas, Sewald, 27, has gone 1-0 with four saves and a 2.08 ERA, striking out 12 batters in 8.2 innings. He also allowed four runs in 1.1 innings during a brief stint with the Mets earlier this season.
Sewald tied for second in saves in the PCL last year with 19, and had the fifth-highest strikeout per 9.0 innings ratio of any reliever in the PCL with 10.96 K/9.
Montero, 26, has gone 0-2 with a 9.45 ERA so far this season. He has allowed 16 hits and eight walks in 6.2 innings (3.600 WHIP), striking out six.
