The Mets have promoted 2010 first-round pick Matt Harvey and fifth-round pick Matt den Dekker from Class-A St. Lucie to Double-A Binghamton.
Harvey, the seventh overall pick in last June’s First-Year Player Draft, was 8-2 with a 2.37 ERA in 14 starts for St. Lucie. After following a sensational start to his pro career with a rocky month of May, Harvey completed his Florida assignment with a 3-0 record, 1.55 ERA, 40 strikeouts and seven walks over his final five outings.
In his final start for St. Lucie (36-22), Matt Harvey didn’t get a decision after allowing two runs — one earned — on five hits and striking out four over six innings.
“He has done a tremendous job for us,” St. Lucie manger Pedro Lopez said. “He brings a different presence on the mound. He makes the other team feel like we are going to be in the game no matter what. I’m glad he finished tonight the same way he pitched this season.”
The Mets also promoted outfielder Matt den Dekker, one of Harvey’s teammates, from St. Lucie to Binghamton. The Mets’ fifth-round pick last June, den Dekker hit .300 with six homers, 36 RBIs and 12 steals in 263 at-bats with St. Lucie.
“What can you say about Den Dekker, he’s an electric player and he can go get them in center field with the best,” Lopez said.
