The Mets are promoting right-handed pitcher Seth Lugo from the Las Vegas 51s today and will option Sean Gilmartin back to Triple-A.

It has been a struggle for the 26-year old righty this year in the Pacific Coast League where he has a 6.55 ERA in 68.2 innings. He started the year in the 51s rotation but was demoted to the bullpen after another rough start on June 5th. The results have been better in his short stint in the bullpen with a 4.00 ERA in nine innings.

Outside of the numbers in the PCL, Lugo is still throwing a good four pitch mix that he did last year with a fastball that tops out at 94 MPH. He likes to throw his two-seam fastball early in the count and has arguably the best curveball in the Mets minor leagues. In fact, before the season, Baseball America crowned him as having the best bender in the system.

Prior to the season, we had him ranked as our #12 prospect at MMO and MMN.

Lugo was added to the Mets 40-man roster this offseason after having a breakout season in 2015 combined between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Las Vegas. He went 8-7 with a 3.84 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and struck out 127 batters in 136 innings in 2015. He was the Mets 34th round pick back in 2011 and you can read more about his incredible baseball journey in tour exclusive interview with him.
