The Mets announced that they have optioned LHP Robert Carson to Double-A Binghamton and purchased the contract of RHP Jack Egbert from Triple-A Buffalo to replace him on the roster.

Egbert has been having a fine season at Buffalo where is 2-3 with a 2.08 ERA in 17 appearances spanning 26 innings. He has allowed 22 hits and 5 walks while striking out 17 batters.

Carson allowed two runs in three innings over two games with the Mets.

The Mets also announced that reliever D.J. Carrasco has been released from the team. In two seasons with the Mets, Carrasco went 1-3 with a 6.11 ERA in 53 innings pitched.

Thoughts from Joe D. – Yesterday I wrote the following on this situation:

I’m not going to go into another diatribe on why Josh Edgin isn’t ready like I did a couple of weeks ago, but I wonder how many Mets fans realize that among pitchers who have thrown ten or more innings this season for the Bisons, Josh Edgin (5.02 ERA) has the worst ERA followed by Matt Harvey (4.35 ERA) and Jeurys Familia (4.31 ERA). That’s right, those three have the worst ERA’s on our Triple-A team. And yet you can’t go one day without reading or hearing about them coming to Flushing. There’s a ton of noise out there.

I always feel bad for the players who are more deserving that nobody ever talks about like Jack Egbert and Elvin Ranirez who we have been writing about almost on a daily basis on MMO.

Good luck and congrats to Egbert who I believe will do a good job for the Mets out of the bullpen.
