Angel Pagan is close to returning and manager Terry Collins expects him to be activated from the disabled list in time for the start of the weekend series against Philadelphia on Friday. Pagan, who is recovering from an oblique strain, went 1-for-3 in a rehab game for St. Lucie on Monday, and is expected to play for Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday and the Mets Friday.
After last night’s game, Sandy Alderson said that David Wright (stress fracture in lower back) met as planned with a back specialist in California, but that nothing had changed about his diagnosis. “Nothing has changed from the original prognosis — rest for 10 days or so and we’ll see where we are.” Alderson also that there’s nothing so far that suggests he will be out longer than we originally anticipated, but there is still no timetable for Wright’s return.
Johan Santana (shoulder surgery) threw off a rubber for he first time on Monday, and tossed 25 pitches. He continues to make good progress and is still on target for a July return.
First baseman Ike Davis (sprained ankle) will not be activated when he is eligible to return on Thursday according to Alderson who said “that’s not going to happen.” Davis has resumed limited baseball activities in Port St.Lucie, but has not yet tried to “cut” while running.
