Ahead of Friday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, the New York Mets announced that they’ve placed Jared Young on the 7-day concussion injured list and recalled Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse to take his place on the 28-man roster.
Young suffered a concussion and was later taken off the field on a stretcher after colliding with Nolan McLean on a ground ball up the first base line in the top of the sixth inning on Thursday.
It was a scary moment for everyone involved, though CT scans on Young were negative and interim manager Andy Green told reporters that he’s doing, “as good as expected or could be hoped for.”
Green added that Young’s, “got his sense of humor intact,” and that he has full motion of his arms and legs while dealing with some short-term memory loss and bad headaches.
In 17 games and 50 plate appearances for the Mets so far this season, Mauricio has slashed .180/.180/.260. The 25-year-old is not in the starting lineup on Friday, and his last game for New York prior to his call-up was on July 6 against the Atlanta Braves
For Syracuse this year, Mauricio has batted .261/.302/.493 with 18 home runs.
