On Monday morning, the New York Mets announced that they’ve made another round of roster cuts as they’ve optioned both Corey Oswalt and Walker Lockett to minor league camp.

As we progress towards Opening Day, the Mets starters will begin to pitch deeper into games, so this move enables the starting pitching depth in Lockett and Oswalt to see more innings.

Oswalt came into camp in tremendous shape, and was enjoined some early success. Through three appearances, he struck out seven and allowed just one run on four hits. As MMO’s Michael Mayer pointed out, Oswalt’s fastball velocity has been sitting in the mid-90’s which is a nice development for the 25-year old.

The Mets acquired Lockett from the Indians in the Kevin Plawecki trade this offseason. He got off to a strong start to the spring with a scoreless inning of work in his debut. However, after that Lockett struggled as he allowed a total of five runs on six hits and two walks over three appearances.

Over the past three seasons in Triple-A the 24-year old has a 4.62 ERA, although the Mets front office does see some upside in the young righty.
