Following Sunday’s game, the New York Mets optioned left-handed pitcher Stephen Tarpley to their alternate site in Brooklyn and recalled infielder Jose Peraza.

Peraza will be active for tonight’s game against the Boston Red Sox as the Mets have opted to go with an extra bench player, having two off-days this week.

Tarpley made his first appearance out of the bullpen with the Mets in Saturday’s loss to the Washington Nationals. The left-hander allowed two runs and failed to record an out, hitting a batter, and issuing two walks and hit.

As for Peraza, his best year offensively came in 2018 with the Cincinnati Reds, when he slashed .288/.326/.416 with 14 home runs and 58 RBIs in 157 games. However, he had the lowest fielding percentage among major league shortstops, at .963.

Peraza spent last season with the Red Sox, where he struggled offensively in 34 games batting .225/.275/.342 with one home run and eight RBIs.

The 26-year-old will be the Mets’ sixth bench player for at least the next two games against the Red Sox, before the team has another off-day on Thursday.
