To combat a taxed bullpen, the New York Mets have optioned right-hander Chris Flexen, and recalled right-hander Chris Mazza from Triple-A Syracuse.

Flexen, 25, is 0-3 with a 6.59 ERA, 5.56 FIP and 2.049 WHIP over nine games for the Mets this year, which includes multiple stints with the team.

Mazza, 29, has appeared in four games for the big club this year in his rookie season, and has registered a 5.19 ERA in four games.

The minor league journeyman has pitched exclusively as a starter at Syracuse this season, and has logged a 3.69 ERA in 17 starts.
