The Mets will once again send down the struggling Brandon Nimmo to Triple-A Las Vegas with the hope of revitalizing the offense, the Mets announced. And according to Betsy Helfand of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, infielder T.J. Rivera will finally get the promotion to the big league club.

Nimmo was recalled at the end of July but has played in just four games, going 2-for-8 with four strikeouts. Overall, he is batting .237/.297/.288 in 64 trips to the plate with the big league club. With so many left-handed outfielders currently on the roster, his presence was very redundant already.

In his place will be infielder T.J. Rivera, who has been raking all year in Triple-A Las Vegas. Rivera was just named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Rivera won the award for the second time this season, and he was also the PCL Player of the Month in May.

In his first full season at Triple-A Las Vegas, Rivera leads the league in batting average (.347), ranks third in RBI (80) and fourth in hits (128). In six minor league seasons, the 27-year old Rivera has dominated at the plate in every level and he’s compiled a .323/.370/.423 batting line in over 600 games.

He was reportedly being considered for a promotion to the Mets last week, but the team opted for Ty Kelly.

The Mets had Rivera gaining some experience in left field of late, where the Mets could use a right-handed bat in their all left-handed hitting outfield. Rivera also has experience at first, second, third and shortstop in the minor leagues.
