Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler has a 10 team no trade list, and the New York Mets are on that list. Coincidentally, that list also includes the Angels, who like the Mets, have been in discussions with the Tigers to acquired the four time All Star.
As we have seen with Giancarlo Stanton, the no trade clause only serves as an impediment if the player truly does not want to join the interested franchise. For example, Stanton rejected trades to both the Cardinals and Giants, but he accepted a trade to the New York Yankees.
The 35 year old Kinsler had a down year at the plate hitting just .236/.313/.412 with 25 doubles, three triples, 22 homers and 86 RBI. Overall, he was a below average hitter as evidenced by his 92 wRC+ and 90 OPS+.
While Kinsler struggled at the plate, the former Gold Glover was still good in the field posting a 6 DRS and a 6.2 UZR. Overall, of all the second base options available this offseason, Kinsler appears to be the best glove.
With his still being good in the field, his durability, and his making $11 million next year, he appears to be a bouneback candidate for next season, and as a result, there are many teams interested in acquiring him.
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN notes that while many teams are interested the Tigers are not close to a trade right now. So far, Kinsler is said to be the Angels primary target at second base with both the Mets and Giants having had talks with the Tigers.
