While the Mets wait for The Big One (the Carlos Correa signing), the team announced Tuesday they officially re-signed reliever Adam Ottavino.

The Mets says they signed him to a one-year deal with a 2024 player option. Reports last week said Ottavino agreed to a two-year deal worth $14.5 million with an opt-out after his first season. If he pitches as well as he did last season–a 2.06 ERA over 65.2 innings–he’ll almost surely opt out and re-enter the market. If not, he can simply resume on his current two-year deal. Jeff Passan reported last week Ottavino can earn up to $1 million in incentives in each year of the deal.

Ottavino re-joins a bullpen that will look much different from the 2022 team. Despite Edwin Diaz being featured as the closer, the team has signed David Robertson and traded for Brooks Raley to help bridge the gap from their starters to Díaz. Seth Lugo, Trevor May, Joely Rodriguez, Trevor Williams and Mychal Givens all left in free agency.

To make room for Ottavino on the roster, the team designated reliever William Woods for assignment. The Mets claimed Woods off waivers from Atlanta after the season. He was part of a flurry of claims, trades and signings of relief prospects that included Stephen Ridings, Jeff Brigham, Tayler Saucedo and Zach Greene.
