The Mets and Carlos Correa’s camp have kept quiet following the Christmas holiday pausing their negotiations according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.

There have been complications since the Mets and Correa reportedly agreed to a 12-year, $315 million deal last week if Correa passed his physical.

Correa had a deal cancelled with the San Francisco Giants over concerns of an ankle injury.

There is optimism a deal can still be completedbetween Correa and the Mets, with one source on Monday placing the likelihood at 55 percent that the two sides find common ground. Among the possibilities is added contract language that would protect the Mets from financial responsibility if Correa’s pre-existing condition sidelined him for an extended stretch. Correa’s agent, Scott Boras, worked out a similar contract clause with J.D. Martinez following a five-year agreement with the Red Sox for $110 million. ”

Puma reports at least three teams have been in contact with Correa in recent days but he remains committed to working a deal out with the New York Mets.

The belief is Correa isn’t open to changing the length or amount of the current deal.

Puma also states that if a deal between the sides is not agreed upon then the Mets could pivot to making a potential trade with the Boston Red Sox for third baseman Rafael Devers. But that doesn’t align with organizations present vision of building for the future.

There is no rush to get a deal done but it gets increasingly concerning every day that passes and no news is announced.

Theres always tomorrow.
