The time none of us wanted to see come has arrived: With a Brewers win, the Mets were finally eliminated from postseason contention.

The Brewers clinched a playoff berth for the second year in a row, this year with a 9-2 win against the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday night.

The Brewers have been red hot, with six wins in a row and 17 wins over their last 19 games.

The Mets were hoping to come up from behind at the end of the season, and although the team has been playing meaningful September baseball, it was not enough to surpass the red-hot Brewers.

With the Mets not being able to sweep the Rockies or the Reds on their road trip, they set themselves up for needed help from either the Phillies or Reds. They also needed to win at least six, if not all, of their final seven games. Unfortunately, neither of these outcomes happened.

Going into Citi Field to play the lowly Marlins, both fans and the team had confidence that they could sweep all four games. The team was not up for the task, however, losing the first of a crucial make-or-break four-game series, setting them up for a situation where a Brewers win would eliminate them from postseason contention.

On the flip side, the Mets were getting no help from Brewers components. Nearly two weeks ago, Brewers’ superstar Christian Yelich suffered a fractured kneecap. Since that day, the Brewers have won 12 of their last 14 games.

Despite the Mets doing nearly all they could in September, currently holding at 14-7 in games played this month, their playoff hopes vanished on September 25th.

When asked about his ability to lead the Mets to the playoffs, Mickey Callaway stated, “I have the most confidence in myself, I’m never gonna give up and never gonna quit. I believe I’m the right guy to lead that team in there”.

He also added that he has confidence going into 2020, stating, “What we did in that second half was pretty special, and they’re gonna take that into next season and keep on riding that wave.”.

Despite the Mets not reaching their playoff goals, the team will still finish at least four games over .500, twelve games better than they did just one year prior.
