The Mets do not complete the sweep as the bats were not hitting today. Pirates win 2-1 despite Santana’s complete game effort.

Game Summary

Johan Santana was on fire during the early goings of the game. He struck out the side in order in the first inning and didn’t give up a hit until the fifth inning. Santana had his changeup on point today, matching it with his 90-91 MPH fastball. Santana now has had three straight complete games starts, two of them in losing efforts. Santana gave up only four hits and two runs on two solo homeruns in the game. He walked one batter and struck out nine. His great pitching was in a losing effort, however, receiving his eighth loss of the season.

The Mets bullpen have now sat out two games in a row. Hopefully they will be well rested and very effective if need be tomorrow.

What a shocker, the Mets offense could only score one run for their ace today. Coming off of six hits, two each for Reyes and Ike. Beltran had the only RBI in the game for the Mets with a sac fly RBI in the first inning.

Only Santana, Ike, Reyes, and Wright had hits for the Mets today. Everyone else had 0-fers. Wright had a double and Reyes had a stolen base.

The Mets were 1-3 today with RISP and left eight men on base.

Mets Theater: The movie “Abduction” was being filmed during today’s game in PNC Park.

Turning Point

The two homeruns Santana gave up in the game.
