Game Summary
On a night where everyone seemed to be besides themselves after Beltran collected his belongings and was shipped to San Fran, the Mets cheered us up a little. Mike Pelfrey got a nice complete game win, a rarity for the Mets. Bullpen got a nice rest. And the Mets offense was lead by Wright and Murphy with an 8-2 win over the Reds.
Game Notes
Mike Pelfrey has been the butt of a lot of jokes this season, but fixed himself up tonight. A very nice, well needed win for him. A complete game victory with two runs given up on seven hits, one homerun, three K’s and no walks. His sixth victory of the season is earned, and if he keeps up starts like this tonight, maybe he can pull the wool over the Mets eyes again and convince them to keep him around.
Lucas Duda, took over for Beltran in right field, delivered a sixth-inning solo homer as the Mets took a 5-1 lead. Duda delivered only his second homer in 123 at-bats this season.
Angel Pagan returned to the starting lineup after battling dehydration and dizziness the last few days, opened the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning.
Daniel Murphy continues his offensive streak. Murphy finished with a career-high four hits tonight with two doubles (DM stands for doubles machine). Despite having four hits, only got one RBI, but having him hit third seems like it is going to work out.
David Wright continues to dominate since returning to the Mets. With two hits and a homerun, and four big RBIs to add to his RBI collection.
Jason Bay went 0-5 with a K. Harris who is in the lineup because of Beltran’s absence, went 0-3 with a K and two walks.
Game Ball
David Wright, Daniel Murphy, and Mike Pelfrey all had great performances. But I’m giving it to Beltran as a goodbye present.
