On a day where R.A. Dickey delivered another quality start, the Mets offense couldn’t manage any offense against Arizona and fell short of a bid for a comeback, losing 3-2, ensuring their second straight losing series on the road.

Game Notes

R.A. Dickey went to the mound today, and in the dead air of Arizona went seven innings giving up three runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts. The air really did play a factor in the movement of Dickey’s knuckleball, as it was flat for the most part and just diving out of the strike zone the whole night. Two of the runs scored in the fourth inning were set off by a two-out walk and Carlos Beltran’s inability to track down an RBI triple. This has been the case with most of the Mets good pitching performances since after the All Star break.

Pedro Feliciano came in, and in returning to his LOOGY role, couldn’t even get out Adam Laroche, giving up another single. Bobby Parnell came in to relieve him, and struck out Mark Reynolds looking and got Stephew Drew to line out into a double play. The pitching did its job today, and its really sad to see losses when the pitching allows less then 4 runs.

The Mets offense did absolutely nothing for the first seven innings. Jose Reyes and Angel Pagan managed to go 2-4 on the day each, with Angel Pagan hitting a home run in the ninth inning to bring the Mets within one. The real story of the hitting was the FIRST ML home run for Josh Thole, who only had 9 MiLB home runs in his career. Congratulations Josh, now let them send you down after you’ve been the most offensively productive Met.

Ike Davis went 1-4 with three strikeouts. His numbers are slowly increasing every day, both batting average and strikeouts.

Luis Castillo went 0-3 with a strikeout today.

Turning Point

When the Mets decided to put up no offense…so every point up until the seventh inning.
