Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that the New York Mets are not close to picking their next manager as the team is currently doing callback interviews.
DiComo adds that the hiring process could extend beyond the remainder of the week and that they like many of the candidates involved.
This likely means that the chances of the team hiring Joe Girardi are slim as the former Yankees’ manager told Mike Francesa on Tuesday night that he expected to have a resolution on his future in 48 hours. He is also viewed as the favorite for the Philadelphia Phillies’ job.
Carlos Beltran, Tim Bogar, Eduardo Perez, Luis Rojas, and Derek Shelton are other candidates known to have had or are set to have second interviews with the Mets.
