The Mets managed to pull themselves out of the basement in the NL East by beating the Braves 3-1 today at Citi Field. In fact, they are tied with the Nats for third place. And not only have they improved their record to 9-9, but they have won three in a row and have secured back-to-back winning series.

The “new” lineup appears to be working for this team. For the first time in a long time, it looks like a brand new team to me. The Mets hitters are showing more signs of patience and wisdom at the plate.  But it’s not just that.

The team finally has some life in them. Some fight. They acknowledge a new beginning. All the trials and tribulations of the Mets of recent past seem to have gone away. There is no learning from the past; it simply just does not exist. They have a certain unprecedented swagger about them – the kind you usually find in Philly and in the Bronx. And I am loving every minute of it. From pitching to hitting to defense to attitude, this team is clicking on all cylinders right now.

The key factor in all of this is that the Mets are healthy. That’s right, healthy. Knock on wood. And as long as they stay healthy, they may actually have a fighting chance.

Now, I don’t want to be presumptuous, but if things continue the way they have gone the past three days, our Mets are sure to be in the race come September.

Could this finally be our year?
