New York Mets No. 2 prospect, first baseman Peter Alonso, will participate in the All-Star Futures Game on July 15, according to Betsy Helfand of the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Twitter.

Alonso, 23, has split this season between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Las Vegas, where he has launched 18 homers and driven in 67 runs while hitting .290/.422/.538.

The Florida native was drafted by the Mets with their second pick of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Florida.

Alonso has burst on the scene since being drafted and has risen through the ranks precipitously, especially in the last year. While it’s unlikely he gets a call-up to Queens this season, it could potentially happen, perhaps in September.

Regardless, it seems as though Alonso will definitely be here at some point in 2019, it’s just a matter of what the situation at first base is.

The Futures Game will take place this season in Washington, DC at Nationals Park.
