The bad news for the Mets continues to pile on for them at the wrong time as it looks like they could be without Carlos Carrasco for at least some stretch of time. Carrasco exited the Mets game after a near-hour rain delay in Monday night’s matchup. He reportedly felt tightness on his left which led to him leaving the game early on.

While the loss of Carrasco will be felt, the team is more than prepared to weather the storm if he is to miss significant time. Players like David Peterson and Trevor Williams will be asked to fill in the void for the time being… again.

David Peterson has a good season with the Mets this year as he’s started 14 games for the ball club while winning six of them and posting a career-best 3.30 ERA throughout the 18 games that he’s played in so far. Peterson also has a career-high in strikeouts with 91 at this crucial point in the season.

As for Trevor Williams, he has shown his value to the Mets as of late as he has not allowed an earned run in his last 20 innings pitched. Williams is carrying a 3.02 ERA in the season with 58 strikeouts and 17 walks.

Both pitchers have filled vital starting pitcher depth roles on the team while guys like Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer and Tylor Megill have missed time this season.

Both Williams and Peterson will likely see time starting in the series against the Phillies, likely in the doubleheader on Saturday if Carrasco has to miss a start (or more).

So while Carrasco’s stellar pitching will be missed, the Mets will continue to follow their next-man-up mantra to help them weather the storm. For now, though, the focus must be on taking this series from the Braves to help extend their division lead.
