May is in the rear view and the one third mark of the season is quickly approaching.  The Slogan for May as we examine the numbers? “Coulda Been Worse!”.

The offense ranked last or close to it in most categories,  The most eye-popping trend to me is that the club averaged over nine strikeouts per game.  Think about that.  One third of all the outs in an average Mets game last month were completely unproductive.

While they were 6th in baseball in home runs, they were dead last in runs scored.  Sure, chicks dig the long-ball, but it may be time to thinking about some small ball too.

Team ERA was a respectable 3.62.  Impressive, considering that number was severely inflated with Matt Harvey’s 5.91.
