Triple-A Syracuse

Syracuse split a six-game set with the Rochester Red Wings this week. They’re now 56-79 on the season.

Jake Mangum had a big series going 7-for-18 with two doubles, a home run, and three stolen bases. The 26-year-old outfielder is now 11-for-39 since returning from a three-month stint on the IL. Overall, Mangum is slashing .310/.348/.425 with six stolen bases in Triple-A. Yolmer Sanchez also picked up seven hits, including three doubles, in 17 at-bats.

Nick Dini and Dominic Smith each hit a pair of home runs in the series. Smith now has six homers with a .262/.354/.419 slash line through 172 at-bats in Triple-A.

Mark Vientos would also homer in Friday’s contest before earning a well-deserved promotion to the big leagues.

Jose Butto delivered another solid performance on the mound, allowing just four hits in seven shutout innings while striking out three. Butto hasn’t issued a walk in his last two starts (12.2) innings, allowing only one run in that span. He now has a 3.18 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP through five starts in Syracuse.

Double-A Binghamton

The Rumble Ponies took the opener of their series with the Portland Sea Dogs before losing the next five games. Binghamton is now 51-79.

There were some encouraging offensive performances this week despite a tough series overall. Wyatt Young led the way with eight hits, including a double and two home runs, in 24 at-bats. Young is now 12-for-38 with two homers and three stolen bases to start September. He’s slashing .261/.354/.391 with Binghamton this season.

Ronny Mauricio also had an impressive bounce-back series, going 7-for-23 with a home run and a stolen base. Mauricio is batting .254/.291/.464 with 25 home runs and 18 stolen bases.

Carlos Cortes hit a pair of home runs as well giving him 11 for the season.

Jose Chacin was nearly spotless for seven innings in the series-opening victory, allowing just a run on six hits while striking out seven. However, it was a different story in Sunday’s finale as Chacin allowed five runs on six hits and four walks in three innings.

David Griffin didn’t allow a hit for five innings in his start, though he did issue five walks en route to a no-decision. Joey Lucchesi made a pair of rehab appearances as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. He allowed four runs, two earned, on five hits in 2 2/3 innings.

High-A Brooklyn

The Cyclones clinched a playoff birth, taking four of six from the Winston-Salem Dash. Brooklyn finished the second half with a 40-26 record, good for first place in the South Atlantic North League. (They were 70-62 overall on the year.)

Jose Peroza capped a strong season with an incredible series. The 22-year-old third baseman went 11-for-22 with two doubles and a home run. Peroza finished the regular season with eight home runs and a .271/.356/.399 slash line.

Alex Ramirez and Stanley Consuegra both had solid weeks as well. Ramirez went 9-for-27 with three doubles while Consuegra was 10-for-25 with a double. Ramirez finished his breakthrough year with a .281/.346/.782 line (.278/.329/.427 with Brooklyn), 11 home runs, and 21 stolen bases.

As was the case all season, the Cyclones were led by excellent starting pitching with three starters going seven innings. Dominic Hamel and Jeffrey Colon each struck out eight over seven scoreless innings. Hamel finished his first full season with a 3.25 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 145 strikeouts in 119 innings between Brooklyn and St. Lucie. Colon pitched to a 2.48 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP in 72.2 innings.

Low-A St. Lucie

St. Lucie split four games with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels to wrap up their regular season with a 73-56 record.

Kevin Parada stood out this week going 4-for-12 with a double and his first-professional home run. The 21-year-old catcher is 8-for-29 through his first 10 games with St. Lucie.

Blade Tidwell, another 2022 draft pick, impressed on the mound with three shutout innings. He allowed just one hit while striking out five.
