It was an offensive explosion across the board for MiLB Mets teams. Stanley Consuegra and Omar De Los Santos each had a five RBI day leading both Brooklyn and St Lucie to wins. Meanwhile, Brett Baty and Mark Vientos both hit home runs as Vientos had a four-RBI night.

Jacksonville (46-40) 6 vs. Syracuse Mets (38-48) 11   BOX SCORE

  • 3B Mark Vientos: 2-for-5, 2 R, HR (16), 4 RBI, .258/.341/.504
  • 2B Travis Blankenhorn: 2-for-4, R, HR (12), 2 RBI, .281/.345/.490
  • CF Khalil Lee: 3-for-4, 2 R, 2 HR (7), 2 RBI, .208/.329/.394

After being shutout in their previous game, Syracuse fried the Jumbo Shrimp in this one, nearly doubling them up by the final score of 11-6. The Mets scored the bulk of their runs by way of the long ball. Vientos and Blankenhorn went back-to-back in the second inning to give the Mets an early 7-3 lead. For Vientos, it was his 16th home run of the season and tied him for the team lead with Daniel Palka. The Jumbo Shrimp would try to mount a comeback cutting the lead to 7-6, but home runs from Khalil Lee in the fifth and eighth inning would put the game away for Syracuse as they evened up their series with Jacksonville.

Mets top prospect Francisco Alvarez went 0-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in the game. His Triple-A OPS is currently .397 for Syracuse.

  • RHP Tim Adleman: 3.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO, 5.24 ERA
  • RHP Eric Orze: (W,3-2), 2 IP, H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO, 4.91 ERA
  • RHP Yoan López: (H,1), 1 IP, H 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO, 5.24 ERA
  • RHP Bryce Montes de Oca: 1 IP, H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO, 3.94 ERA

Despite being given an early 3-0 lead after one inning, Tim Adleman would struggle in this one. He would quickly allow Jacksonville to tie the game back up when he gave up three runs in the second inning. He’d settle down a bit after that but wouldn’t be able to make it past the fourth inning. The Syracuse bullpen would shut the door from there. When Jacksonville made it a one-run game in the fifth, the bullpen wouldn’t allow them to score another run the rest of the way. Eric Orze was dominant over his two innings of work, allowing no hits, runs, or walks and striking out two. That was enough to earn Orze the win and help Syracuse to an 11-6 victory.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (31-52) 2 vs. Erie (48-34) 7   BOX SCORE

  • 3B Brett Baty: 3-for-5, R, HR (12), RBI, .280/.373/.474
  • LF Carlos Cortes: 1-for-5, 2B, .221/.292/.344
  • 1B Jeremy Vasquez: 3-for-4, .261/.350/.358

The Rumble Ponies slashed nine hits in this one but would leave 12 men on base and score only two runs in their 7-2 loss in Erie. Brett Baty continues to stay hot in the month of July as he blasted his 12th home run of the season. He now has four home runs during the month, which is half his total he began the month with at eight.

After struggling in his two starts with Triple-A Syracuse since his promotion, David Griffin was sent back down to Double-A Binghamton where he wouldn’t fare much better in this one. Griffin wouldn’t get out of the second inning in this start as he was pounded for five runs on seven hits by Erie. After Griffin was pulled, Jordan Yamamoto would come in relief of him and throw 1 1/3 scoreless innings Yamamoto, after making a brief appearance with the Mets in 2021, has been having a solid season with Brooklyn and primarily with Binghamton. Through just over 14 innings he has an ERA of 2.25 and a K/9 rate of 11.7. Yamamoto was once considered a rich prize in the Marlins farm system when he was coming up and could rise through the ranks as the pennant race heats up in the Big Leagues.

Greensboro (34-47) 0 vs. Brooklyn Cyclones (39-44) 9   BOX SCORE

  • LF Matt Rudick: 2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, .200/.326/.333
  • RF Stanley Consuegra: 4-for-5, R, 3 2B, HR (1), 5 RBI, 1 SB, .248/.321/.437
  • SS Shervyen Newton: 3-for-4, 3 R, 3B, RBI, SB, .226/.320/.387

Coming into this game, Stanley Consuegra had been having a hard time adjusting since getting his promotion to High-A Brooklyn. He was batting just .115 and had only three RBI. This game might’ve been just the breakout performance he needed. Whether this game breaks him out of his slump remains to be seen, but you can’t argue with the results. Consuegra had four hits in this one, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. He hit his first Single-A home run and tied his season high with five RBIs. He would help Brooklyn rout Greensboro as Shervyen Newton would hit his third triple of the season and Matt Rudick would collect 2 RBIs of his own as the Cyclones squashed the Grasshoppers, 9-0.

While the final score of this game was a 9-0 blowout, the game was actually a bit closer that it seemed. Before the Cyclones put up a five spot in the eighth inning they relied on their pitching to keep Greensboro at bay. Starter Garrison Bryant, would turn in his best start of the season. His six innings of work were tied with his longest outing to date. It was also his longest start without giving up a run. It all would add up for his fifth win on the season. Daison Acosta had been getting roughed up lately coming into this game, would throw a dominant three innings of work where he would allow only one hit and canceled wrapping up the Cyclones shutout over Greensboro.

Game One: Dunedin (36-45) 2 vs. St Lucie Mets (49-32) 5 F/7  BOX SCORE

  • 3B Justin Guerrera: 2-for-3, 2 RBI, .187/.296/.320
  • SS Junior Tilien: 1-for-3, R, HR (8), RBI, .256/.303/.449
  • LF Omar De Los Santos: 1-for-2, R, 2B, .282/.347/.516

After rain cancelled their previous game, St. Lucie cruised to a game one seven-inning doubleheader with Dunedin. The Mets would pepper the Blue Jays with runs in the second and third innings with RBI hits from Juan Loyo and Justin Guerrera and then in the firth, Junior Tilien would smash his eighth home run of the season to extend the lead to 5-0 as the Mets would win in a shortened seven inning game, 5-2.

  • RHP Raimon Gomez: 2.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO, 2.31 ERA
  • RHP Justin Dillon: (W,1-0) 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO, 2.95 ERA
  • RHP Trey McLoughlin: (S,3) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, SO, 4.85 ERA

St. Lucie’s pitching has carried them all season to be one of the best teams in the Florida State League. This game, like many others, would show the Mets dominant pitching at work. Raimon Gomez would go 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball and lowered his ERA to 2.31. Justin Dillon and Trey McLoughlin would combine to throw 2 2/3 shutout innings of their own as Dillion would lower his ERA below three.

Game Two: Dunedin (36-46) 3 vs. St Lucie Mets (50-32) 6 F/7   BOX SCORE

  • CF Omar De Los Santos: 3-for-3, 2 R, 2B, 2 HR (12), 5 RBI, .282/.347/.516
  • 2B Warren Saunders: 3-for-3, 2 R, .194/.256/.299
  • C Brady Smith: 1-for-3, R, .153/.280/.247

They say one player can’t carry a team. Omar De Los Santos came pretty close to doing that in game two of St. Lucie’s doubleheader. He would drive in five of the Mets six runs while hammering two home runs and collecting ten total bases in this one. De Los Santos has been one of the most impressive prospects to watch this season, not just in St. Lucie but in the entire Mets system. He brings with him a nice blend of power and speed. He’s giving FSL catchers fits on the base paths as he’s swiped 47 bases through 71 games. Warren Saunders would also turn in a solid game at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 and scoring two runs. The win in this one gives St. Lucie 50 on the season.

After dominating the Dominican Summer League to the tune of a 0.54 ERA through 50 innings, there was a lot of hype surrounding then-17-year-old Joel Diaz. Now 18 and in Single-A, Diaz hasn’t enjoyed nearly the same success he did in the Dominican. In his last two games, he’s perhaps shown flashes of what’s to come. Diaz has lasted four innings in back-to-back starts and through 11 innings in the month of July, has an ERA of 4.91. That might not sound impressive, but considering his June ERA of 12.71 it’s a major improvement. Diaz perhaps could’ve gone longer in this game, but control issues would doom that hope as he gave up five walks in four innings.

The bullpen would finish the last three innings as Alfonseca and Santos would combine to give up just one run in relief in a 6-3 Met win and doubleheader sweep.
