The Mets’ bats stayed hot in Syracuse, winning their fourth consecutive game against Worchester while posting double-digit runs for their second-straight game. Carlos Cortes, looking to rebound from a slow start, jumpstarted the offense with a grand slam in the first inning before adding another RBI on a fourth-inning double. Nick Meyer was on base four times with two singles and two walks, scoring a pair of runs while adding his third stolen base of the year. Daniel Palka kept up his strong start, hitting his fifth home run of the season and walking three times. Cody Bohanek also added a homer, his first of the year, a three-run shot in the seventh inning.

Grey looked sharper in his third start of the year but allowed a 2-out RBI single in the first and a tw0-run homer to Yolmer Sanchez in the third. Colin Holderman earned the win in relief, striking out his only batter faced (Triston Casas), to end the fifth. Antonio Santos and R.J. Alvarez each pitched a pair of scoreless innings to close out the win for Syracuse.

AA: Portland Sea Dogs 3 (7-6) vs. Binghamton Rumble Ponies 2 (4-8)

Following yesterday’s brawl, things were relatively quiet in this game between the Sea Dogs and the Rumble Ponies, with Portland ultimately prevailing in 10 innings. Alvarez, Baty, and Mauricio all sat in the contest (Baty came up as a pinch hitter in the 10th and struck out). Johneshwy Fargas scored both runs for the Rumble Ponies, hit a pair of singles, and stole his second base of the season. Both runs came on RBI singles, first from Jeremy Vasquez in the opening inning and later from Matt Winaker in the sixth.

Valverde pitched well in the start, scattering three hits while striking out six. Nate Fisher allowed a home run in the fifth but struck out four to help keep the game tied. Montes de Oca looked dominant in the eighth, striking out a pair to strand the bases loaded. However, a walk, hit, and RBI groundout in the ninth led to his first blown save of the season. After Binghamton failed to score in the 10th Tyler Dearden won the game for Portland with an RBI single, handing Trey Cobb his first loss of the year.

A+: Brooklyn Cyclones 6 (8-5) vs. Hudson Valley Renegades 4 (6-7)

The Cyclones scored six runs on nine hits en route to the win over the Renegades. Rowdey Jordan was the star for Brooklyn, going 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI doubles. Jordan, an 11th-round pick in 2021, now has seven extra-base hits (five doubles and two triples) in his first 47 at-bats this season. JT Schwartz was on base three times and opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first. Matt O’Neill reached base three times as well, with a triple and a pair of walks.

  • RHP Oscar Rojas5.0 IP, W, 2 ER, 4 H, BB, 8 K (2-0, 1.93 ERA)

Chacin dealt with some traffic in the start but held Hudson Valley to just a pair of unearned runs thanks to five strikeouts. Oscar Rojas pitched five innings in a piggy-back role, allowing just two runs while striking out eight to earn the win. Rojas, signed as an international free agent from Mexico in 2017, now has 19 strikeouts in 14 innings this season.

A: Jupiter Hammerheads 4 (7-6) vs. St. Lucie Mets 3 (8-5)

After falling behind 4-0 early, the Mets managed to get within a run before leaving the bases loaded in the ninth. Shervyen Newton kept up his encouraging start, recording a single and a double. Justin Guerrera drove in a pair of runs with an RBI fielder’s choice in the fifth inning and an RBI single in the ninth. Alex Ramirez has now recorded a hit in 11-straight games to start the season. The Mets’ seventh-ranked prospect now has 20 hits in his first 45 at-bats as he continues to open eyes in St. Lucie.

  • RHP Mike Vasil: L, 3.0 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 K (0-1, 4.91 ERA)
  • RHP Luis Moreno5.0 IP, 4 H, BB, 4 K (0-0, 6.52 ERA)

Vasil struggled in this one, allowing five hits (all singles) and four earned runs in just three innings. Luis Moreno, meanwhile, was excellent in long-relief, holding the Hammerheads scoreless for the final five innings. It’s a nice rebound effort from Moreno, who allowed seven earned runs in his first 4.2 innings this season.
