Albuquerque Isotopes (47-45) 9, Las Vegas 51s (35-58) 5 Box Score

The 51s scored five in the first two innings but that was all their offense got in the game. Amed Rosario got his 17th double and 17th steal in the game. He also recorded his 17th error of the game, perhaps foreshadowing a call up for July 17th? Dominic Smith also continued his sharp hitting by reaching base three times in this one.

Not much to look at on the positive side for the 51s pitchers. Baldonado’s walks have increased and his strikeouts have decreased since his promotion which is definitely concerning. Hopefully part of it is the adjustment to the hitter friendly environments.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (49-38) 5, Reading Fightin Phils (51-39) 3 Box Score

In addition to pitching well, Corey Oswalt recorded another home run. Luis Guillorme’s .371 OBP ranks 11th in the Eastern League. Nido had his first multi-hit in quite some time.

  • RHP Corey Oswalt (7-3, 2.31 ERA): 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
  • RHP Corey Taylor (5-4, 4.17 ERA): 1 IP, 2 H, ER, 3 K
  • LHP Ben Griset (3-0, 2.35 ERA): 1 IP, H, K
  • RHP Cory Burns (0-2, 5.92 ERA): 1 IP, H, K

Oswalt continues to pitch very well. He gave up back-to-back home runs in the second inning and was great outside those two batters. Taylor showed his strikeout pitch tonight. He will be eased back in after just returning from an injury.

Fort Myers Miracle (49-40) 4, St. Lucie Mets (41-49) 3 Box Score

The St. Lucie Mets scored three in the sixth thanks in large part to John Mora’s two-run home run. Anthony Dimino is slashing .319/.406/.341. His career OBP in the minors is .421 but he only slugs .379.

Crismatt has been very good this year and was fine again last night despite allowing eleven hits. Over his last ten starts, he has a 72:8 strikeout to walk ratio. His changeup has been great. Smoker is likely completing rehab assignment tomorrow. Torres blew a 3-2 lead in the ninth.

Kannapolis Intimidators (48-43) 7, Columbia Fireflies (48-42) 2 Box Score

The Fireflies did not have much offense. They only mustered four hits and eight base runners in total all game. Desmond Lindsay continued his recent hot hitting but his strikeouts continue. His bat is too quick and compact so I do not believe this will continue. Gimenez appears to have fought out of his mini funk.

Llanes was hurt by some bad defense and his own defense. He had an errand pick of throw and Winningham missed a ball at first. He still managed to eat innings for the Fireflies. Uceta remains dominant and could be at St. Lucie soon enough.

State College Spikes (15-10) 12, Brooklyn Cyclones (6-19) 1 Box Score

The Cyclones had their share of baserunners but only managed to push one run across. The Stanford teammates, Winaker and Brodey have both been able to get on base but not produce a high slugging percentage. Ricardo Cespedes is slashing .179/.200/.179 after having high hopes entering the season.

  • RHP Mike Gibbons (0-2, 7.59 ERA): 5 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
  • RHP Trent Johnson (1-2, 7.77 ERA): 1.2 IP, 6 H, 8 R (6 ER), 2 BB
  • LHP Kurtis Horne (0-0, 11.81 ERA): 0.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB
  • RHP Cannon Chadwick (0-0, 0.00 ERA): 1.2 IP, 2 K

The Cyclones pitching staff struggled again tonight with the exception of Cannon Chadwick. Chadwick was a ninth rounder from Arkansas who currently has eleven strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings.

Kingsport Mets (9-12) 13, Johnson City Cardinals (9-14) 12 Box Score

Moreno made his Kingsport debut in this one and responded with four hits. Moreno has shown a lot of progress this past year. He recently chatted with MMN‘s own, Ernest Dove.  The team was trailing 12-10 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Kevin Hall hit a two-run homer and Angel Manzanarez homered a few batters later for the walk-off win.

  • RHP Jose Geraldo (2-1, 5.09 ERA): 4 IP, 5 H, 6 R (3 ER), BB, 3 K
  • RHP Billy Oxford (1-0, 9.53 ERA): 1.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R (4 ER), BB, K
  • LHP Aaron Ford (0-1, 0.00 ERA): 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 K
  • RHP Ryan Selmer (0-0, 5.14 ERA): 1 IP, H, ER, 2 BB, K
  • RHP Stephen Villines (1-0, 0.00 ERA): 1 IP, 2 K

Outside of Geraldo, it was a day for the 2017 draft class. Oxford and Geraldo really struggled, allowing 11 of the 12 runs in the game. Ford has been dominant since signing with the team. Villines has given up lots of hits but has managed to record his share of strikeouts.
