26-year-old Carlos Cortes had a monster game, clobbering two home runs and finishing 2-for-3 with two walks and six RBIs. In the first inning, Cortes crushed a 424-foot grand slam over the center field wall to give Syracuse a 4-0 lead. Cortes’ second blast of the night came in the fifth inning with the game knotted up at 4-4. He hit a two-run shot over the right-center field wall, giving the Mets a 6-4 advantage. Cortes has reached base in 13 straight games and is slashing .284/.437/.617 with a 1.054 OPS, eight homers, and 18 RBIs this month.

Ronny Mauricio extended his on-base streak to 21 games with a base knock 104.4 mph off the bat in the first inning. In the sixth inning, Syracuse had a 6-4 lead, and Mauricio launched an opposite-field two-run shot to extend the Mets lead to 8-4. He finished the game 3-for-5 with a couple of RBIs and two runs scored. The 22-year-old switching-hitting infielder had his third three-hit performance and has clubbed three dingers in his last five contests. His eight stolen bases and 11 walks in August are both career-highs for any month.

Daniel Palka went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored in his first game since signing a minor league deal with the Mets. The 31-year-old slugger was with the Boston Red Sox’s Triple-A affiliate Worcester and hit .233/.309/.410 with 12 home runs and 48 RBIs in 80 games.

Right-hander Justin Jarvis was on the bump and making his fifth start for Syracuse since being acquired in the Mark Canha trade. Jarvis didn’t fair well as he surrendered four runs on four hits with three walks over three innings. The 23-year-old has struggled for the Mets, posting a 6.75 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP over 17 1/3 innings.

Outfielder Agustin Ruiz snapped a scoreless tie by drilling a two-out RBI double in the seventh inning to drive in Jeremiah Jackson from first base to give Binghamton a 1-0 lead. On Monday, Ruiz was named the Eastern League Player of the Week (August 21-27). The 23-year-old slashed .500/.636/1.125 with an OPS of 1.761 during the five games against New Hampshire. He had three home runs, eight RBIs, and three straight multi-hit games in the series.

Kevin Parada went 0-for-4 at the plate with two strikeouts in his Double-A debut. Parada showed off his arm behind the dish and threw out Crews, attempting to steal second base in the first inning.

Drew Gilbert extended his on-base streak to 14 games. He was on base three times with a single and drew a pair of walks. The 22-year-old outfielder is hitting .342 with a .977 OPS since joining the Mets organization in the Justin Verlander trade.

Luisangel Acuña had his sixth multi-hit game in his last nine contests with two singles. The 21-year-old speedster is hitting .395 (15-for-38) with two doubles, four RBIs, three stolen bases and six runs scored during that span.

Right-hander Blade Tidwell faced off against a formidable Senators lineup featuring the Washington Nationals’ highly touted prospects outfielders (No.4) Dylan Crews, (No. 7) James Wood, and third baseman (No.43) Brady House. Tidwell pitched well, firing 5 1/3 scoreless frames, scattering two hits and three walks. He fanned six batters and got 16 swings and misses on 88 pitches. The 22-year-old has pitched 10 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings in his last two starts, striking out 12 and walking three.

HIGH-A

Brooklyn Cyclones (60-60) 1, Greenville Drive (60-61) 6

The Brooklyn Cyclones bats go silent in a 6-1 loss to the Greenville Drive Tuesday evening. Brooklyn only managed two hits all game.

The Cyclones’ lone run came in the eighth inning with two outs. Cleanup hitter Stanley Consuegra ripped a triple off the right field wall, driving in Jett Williams to pull Brooklyn within 6-1. The 22-year outfielder has 13 RBIs in his last 11 games.

Jett Williams has continued to be an on-base machine in High-A (.580 OBP). He walked two more times Tuesday evening and now has 24 walks this month. The 19-year-old has reached base safely in 24 out of 25 games since his promotion to High-A Brooklyn.

20-year-old slugger Ryan Clifford has reached base in seven straight games. He drew three walks in the contest for the second time in a week. Clifford has a .438 OBP with two homers, five RBIs, and eight walks during that span.

Right-hander Saul García made his High-A debut for Brooklyn. The 20-year-old allowed one run on three hits over three innings of relief. García issued two free passes and struck out two. He was 5-9 with a 5.35 ERA and 96 punchouts across 67 1/3 innings for St. Lucie Mets.

LOW-A

The games between the St. Lucie Mets and Tampa Tarpons on Tuesday and Wednesday were postponed due to Hurricane Idalia striking the Florida Gulf Coast. St. Lucie’s next game is scheduled for Thursday, August 31st, at 6 p.m.
