The Syracuse Mets blasted three early home runs against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs Tuesday afternoon in a 10-3 rain-shortened win.

The Mets jumped all over IronPigs starter Nick Nelson with three runs in the first inning. Outfielder Rafael Ortega leadoff the frame with a walk, and Ronny Mauricio followed with a base knock up the middle (108.4 off the bat). Right-handed slugger Luke Voit stepped up to the plate and, on a 2-1 count, swatted a 388-foot three-run dinger over the left field wall. Voit has a .944 OPS with seven homers in 81 plate appearances in July.

Syracuse extended their lead the very next inning when catcher Tomás Nido struck an opposite-field two-run homer making it a 5-0 ball game. Nido has homered in back-to-back games and is slashing .361/.395/.556 with a .951 OPS in 12 games this month.

In the third inning, after a two-out base knock by Luke Ritter, Carlos Cortes followed and drilled a two-run shot over the right-field fence, extending the Mets’ lead to 7-0. The 26-year-old Cortes is 7-for-14 with four runs scored, one homer, five runs batted in, and four walks in his last four games.

26-year-old Ritter laced an RBI single in the fifth inning, plating the eight-run of the game. Ritter finished the contest with a three-hit performance. He smoked a double (112.4 exit velocity) in the first inning and added a walk in the sixth. The Mets’ 2019 seventh-round draft pick has cooled off in July, as he is hitting .215 with a .680 OPS, three home runs, and nine batted in.

Right-hander Denyi Reyes pitched well and earned his first win of the season. He allowed three runs on four hits and issued two free passes over 5 1/3 innings. Reyes served up three solo dingers late in the game. The 26-year-old struck out five and generated 13 swings and misses on 83 pitches Tuesday afternoon.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (42-47), Reading Fightin Phils (38-50)

The game between the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Reading Fightin Phils was suspended Tuesday afternoon due to inclement weather. They will resume play on Wednesday at 5:15 PM with one out in the bottom of the second inning.

Wilmington Blue Rocks (38-51) 11, Brooklyn Cyclones (45-45) 9

In a back-and-forth extra innings affair, The Wilmington Blue Rocks out-slugged the Brooklyn Cyclones 11-9 Tuesday night at Maimonides Park. The two teams combined for 18 runs on 21 hits in the final four innings.

Five Brooklyn players recorded a multi-hit performance, led by four hits from outfielder Rhylan Thomas and three from Alex Ramírez. The 23-year-old lefty hitting Thomas extended his hit streak to eight games. He is hitting .483 (14-for-29) during that span.

20-year-old Ramírez finished the contest 3-for-4 with three RBIs. He recorded an RBI sac fly in the seventh inning and added a run-scoring base knock in the eighth to give Brooklyn a 7-5 lead which would not last. In his last four games, Ramirez is 10-for-20 with two doubles and four RBIs.

22-year-old Robert Colina tossed four shutout innings Tuesday against the Blue Rocks. Colina scattered four hits and one walk while recording four strikeouts in the outing. The right-hander is 2-0 with a 1.72 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and a 15/4 K/BB ratio across 15 1/3 innings in July.

The towering 6-foot-10 right-hander Paul Gervase took the blown save after allowing two runs in the ninth. Gervase permitted two hits and walked a pair. The 23-year-old is still having an outstanding season out of the Brooklyn pen with a 1.59 ERA, six saves, and 63 punchouts across 39 2/3 innings.

LOW-A

Bradenton Marauders (52-38) 8, St. Lucie Mets (32-58) 5

BOX SCORE

The Bradenton Marauders rallied late in the contest, scoring six runs to steal an 8-5 win over the St. Lucie Mets Tuesday night. The Mets’ offense went down quietly as only one base runner reached base in the final four innings against the Marauders pen.

With the score tied 1-1 in the second inning, Jett Williams stepped to the plate with two outs and runners on the corners and smacked a two-run triple (6th) over the centerfielder’s head to give the Mets a 3-1 advantage. Williams also doubled in the first inning and finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs batted in. The 19-year-old continues to lead the Florida State League in OBP with a .426. He has a .966 OPS with eight extra-base hits, 11 stolen bases, and 19 walks in 73 plate appearances in July.

The Mets added a pair of runs in the third inning to extend their lead to 5-1. Lefty hitting Yohairo Cuevas notched his first RBI base knock with St. Lucie driving in Jacob Reimer. Two batters later, outfielder Karell Paz was plunked with the bases loaded, pushing across another run. 19-year-old Cuevas slashed .310/.444/.577 with four homers, 15 RBIs, and a 1.021 OPS in 23 games with the FCL Mets.

19-year-old Reimer was on base twice and went 1-for-4 with a walk Tuesday night. He is 10-for-37 (.270) with two homers, nine RBIs, and posted a .863 OPS in his last 11 games. Reimer is also sixth among qualified FSL hitters with a .401 OBP.

20-year-old hurler Layonel Ovalles was on the bump for the Mets Tuesday night. Ovalles pitched well, allowing two runs on a pair of hits in five innings. He served up a solo jack in the first inning to the Pirates’ highly touted prospect Termarr Johnson. (No. 26 on MLB Pipeline Top 100) The young right-hander issued three free passes and recorded three punchouts on 77 pitches, registering a CSW of 31%.

Mets reliever Saul García labored as he permitted six runs on three hits over two-plus innings on 63 pitches. He issued five free passes and committed four wild pitches. The 20-year-old has struggled to a 5.21 ERA, 1.51 WHIP in 17 appearances (four starts).

FCL Nationals (14-17) 5, FCL Mets (21-11) 9

Trailing 3-0 in the second inning, the FCL Mets got on the scoreboard with two runs. Catcher Christopher Suero reached base with a one-out walk. Then back-to-back two-out RBI doubles by Fabian Machado and Nick Morabito cut the deficit to 3-2.

In the fourth inning, the Mets took a 5-4 lead with a solo homer from Suero, and three batters later, Morabito struck a two-run blast for his first professional home run.

With the score knotted at 5-5 in the sixth inning, The Mets reclaimed the lead, scoring three runs. First baseman Yordis Perera opened the frame with a single up the middle. The next batter, Machado, recorded his second base hit of the contest, then Morabito came up and collected his fourth hit of the afternoon, an RBI base knock to drive in Perera. Sacrifice flies by Diego Mosquera, and Yonatan Henriquez plated the final two runs of the frame to make it 8-5.

The 20-year-old Morabito has hit safely in 10 of 11 games in July and is slashing a robust .478/.529/.696 with seven extra-base hits, four stolen bases, 11 RBIs, and a 1.225 OPS. The 2022 second-round pick is ninth in stolen bases with 11 and tied for 16th with a .891 OPS in the FCL.

Right-hander Jordan Geber was making his second rehab appearance for the FCL Mets on Tuesday. Geber tossed two innings, allowed three runs on six hits, and struck out a pair. The 23-year-old has been sidelined since early May and was pitching for High-A Brooklyn, where he was 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts in five appearances (1 start)

The duo of Pedro Mercedes and Cristofer Gomez pitched the final four scoreless frames in relief. Mercedes earned his first win of the year.

Dominican Summer League

DSL Mets Orange (14-22) 6, DSL Miami (13-22) 7

18-year-old outfielder Jeffry Rosa extended his hit streak to five games and finished the contest 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs, and clubbed his league-leading 12th dinger in the fifth inning Tuesday. Rosa is 11-for-21 (.524) with six doubles, four homers, and ten RBIs in his last five games. He also leads the DSL in SLG (.820) and is second in OPS (1.256) across 112 plate appearances.

17-year-old backstop Julio Zayas went 2-for-4 with a run scored and swiped his first bag of the year. Zayas has reached base safely in his last 11 games. He is hitting .318 with ten runs scored, five extra-base hits, seven RBIs, and six walks during that span.

Samuel Camacaro collected three hits and drove in the Mets Orange’s first run in the second inning with his fourth double. The 19-year-old switch-hitting shortstop has recorded five multiple-hit games in his last eight contests. Camacaro is slashing .346/.414/.404 with three doubles, ten RBIs, and a .818 in July.

Right-hander Jose Chirinos walked four and yielded five runs (three earned) in three innings Tuesday in a loss. The 18-year-old scattered three hits and struck out four. Chirinos is 0-3 with a 3.24 ERA, a 42/13 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings in nine starts for the DSL Mets Orange squad.

19-year-old Irving Cota hurled three innings in relief, permitting two runs (one earned) on five hits. Cota racked up four strikeouts and did not issue a walk. He is 2-1 with a 4.44 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP in 11 appearances for both DSL squads.

DSL Cardinals (11-26) 4, DSL Mets Blue (16-20) 6

The DSL Mets Blue squad erupted for five runs in the fifth inning. Outfielder Rainer Reyes plated the Mets’ first two runs of the game with a two-run triple. Jose Aular and Julian Hernandez followed with back-to-back RBI two base knocks. Shortstop Branny De Oleo capped off the five-run inning with a line drive RBI base hit to give the Mets Blue a 5-1 lead.

18-year-old De Oleo went 1-for-4 and collected his 20th RBI of the year. He is hitting .300/.394/.500 and an 894 OPS in 31 games.
