AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders (54-57) 6, Syracuse Mets (46-66) 2  Box Score

  • José Peraza 1B: 2-for-3, R, .258/.313/.367
  • Brett Baty 3B: 1-for-4, BB, 2 K, .353/.459/.804
  • Ronny Mauricio SS: 1-for-5, 2 K, E, .289/.338/.493

Despite recording nine hits in Sunday’s game, the Mets were able to push across just two runs, the second of which came on a towering solo home run by Carlos Cortes in the fourth inning. After homering in each of his first two games back in Syracuse, Baty has gone 1-for-7 over the last two games. Mauricio has extended his hitting streak to nine games but still has just a .302 OBP since the beginning of the month.

Vasil came one out shy of a quality start on Sunday, and though he struggled since his promotion to Triple-A, Vasil’s pitched extremely well his last couple of times out. Most notably, though, his walk rate has skyrocketed from 1.41 to 5.08 BB/9 since his promotion. Lavender has a 14.27 K/9 this season.

AA: Somerset Patriots (63-43) 8, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (54-53) 0  Box Score

The Rumble Ponies had almost no offense in this game: they had three hits, walked just once, and struck out 12 times. The team had just a single at-bat with runners in scoring position following Schwartz’s double. Schwartz is having an outstanding month of August, hitting .417/.488/.611 so far this month. Acuña has struggled quite a bit since he joined the Mets organization and is just 1-for-12 in his last four games.

Hamel struggled in his start on Sunday, working around trouble throughout the game after allowing six batters to reach base before the end of the fourth inning. Hamel has had an up-and-down season but has generally looked better since the start of July, as he has an ERA of 3.38 over that span. After four scoreless outings since his promotion to Double-A, this was the first time Ramos has allowed a run with Binghamton.

A+: Brooklyn Cyclones (54-53) 6, Aberdeen IronBirds (51-54) 0  Box Score

Both teams were held without a run into the sixth inning, but Brooklyn broke the game open by scoring runs in each of their final three offensive innings. Williams continues to impress with his incredible on-base skills, reaching base three more times on Sunday and having almost as many walks (82) as games played (91) this season.

Ramirez is having a dismal month, hitting just .152/.235/.239 since its start, but the two walks could be a good sign of the beginnings of a turnaround. After hitting 16 home runs a year ago, this was just Santos’ sixth of the 2023 season.

Lucchesi looked good in his second rehab appearance with Brooklyn, needing just 63 pitches to make it through 4 2/3 scoreless innings. Gervase posted a ridiculous seven strikeouts in just over three innings of work and now has 76 strikeouts in 47 innings this season. Batters have a .526 OPS against him for the year.

A: St. Lucie Mets (37-70) 7, Palm Beach Cardinals (56-49) 3  Box Score

The Mets scored seven runs on eleven hits thanks in part to four extra-base hits, including home runs by Lara and Gomez. Lara’s home run left his bat at 98 mph and traveled 397 feet. After hitting just three home runs combined in his first two professional seasons, Lara has experienced a nice power surge as a 19-year-old, as this was his 12th homer of 2023.

Ovalles had a strong outing, especially in terms of getting whiffs, as his pitches combined to register a 34% whiff rate for the afternoon. His slider has a particularly impressive spin rate, averaging 2711 RPM and topping out at nearly 2900 RPM. Henriquez topped out in the mid-90s with his fastball.
