The Syracuse Mets couldn’t overcome a poor outing from Peyton Battenfield in their loss and the Rumble Ponies lost a tough one in the eighth inning behind a great start from Dominic Hamel.

Triple A: Worcester Red Sox 5, Syracuse Mets 3  Box Score

Jaylen Palmer homered on two consecutive days continuing his power surge. Carlos Cortes continued his struggles in the month of September, striking out twice in an 0-for-4 outing.

Peyton Battenfield followed up his last strong outing with a poor one. He allowed five hits, four walks, and five earned runs in 2 1/3 innings. Eric Orze had a great outing in relief, striking out five batters in two scoreless innings. The rest of the bullpen was solid pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out five.

The Syracuse Mets are 5-7 in September and are ninth in the International League East.

Double A: Reading Fighting Phils 2, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 1 Box Score

Jett Williams stole his first base in AA and his 45th across three levels. Kevin Parada continued his struggles, striking out three times to bring his total to 22 strikeouts in 56 plate appearances. The Rumble Ponies were 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Luis Guillorme went 0-for-2 with three walks on Friday. The utility infielder is on a rehab assignment after he strained his calf in July. Acuña also went hitless, striking out three times in four at-bats.

Dominic Hamel had another great start, generating 14 swing-and-misses. This was his third consecutive start without allowing a run. Hamel hasn’t allowed more than 4 earned runs in a start since May 9th. Kolby Kubichek, who has been having a strong season, had control issues and ultimately was charged with the loss and blown save. Wilkin Ramos continued his strong season across two levels.
