AAA: Buffalo Bisons (40-25) 5, Syracuse Mets (23-44) 3

Box Score

After jumping out to an early two-run lead, Syracuse ended up losing a close one despite another big game from Almora and a solid start from Worley.

After Lee led off the second inning with a walk and Wilfredo Tovar followed him with a double, it appeared as if Syracuse might strand the two runners when Cheslor Cuthbert and Drew Jackson followed the double with two strikeouts. But Almora came through with a line drive two run single to left that deflected off the third baseman’s glove.

Buffalo then scored five unanswered runs before Almora hit a solo homer in the seventh inning on a line drive to left field. After hitting only two extra base hits in 41 plate appearances in the majors this year, Almora now has eight in 83 plate appearances with Syracuse.

  • RHP Vance Worley (3-2, 5.24) 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 2 K

A.J. Schugel tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

Baty’s slow start to his Double-A career continued as he managed only a walk in five plate appearances. He grounded out to second twice, grounded out to shortstop, and popped out to shortstop in his other four at-bats.

Cortes hit a game-tying RBI single on a grounder to right field in the seventh inning.

Mangum had a nice game, doubling on a flyball to right and drawing a walk in his five plate appearances.

  • RHP Jose Butto (1-4, 4.20) 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 K
  • RHP Yeizo Campos (1-1, 3.64) 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K

Butto improved his trade value with an excellent Double-A debut. Erie’s two elite prospects (Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson) went a combined 0-for-6 off Butto with two strikeouts.

Campos continued to pitch well in long relief, throwing three dominant innings with five strikeouts.
