Syracuse (59-58) 4, Norfolk (46-70) 2  Box Score

The Mets offense scored a single run in four of the first five innings to build a lead which they would not surrender. One day after his second three home run game of the season, Rivera had two extra bases in Friday’s game, including his 23rd home run of the season. In August, he is hitting .423/.464/1.077 with five home runs. Herrera has cooled off recently and is hitting just .172/.172/.310 with eight strikeouts in seven July games.

Gonzalez had a decent outing for Syracuse and has seemingly made a smooth adjustment to Triple-A so far. Nogosek still has not allowed an earned run in 22.0 innings with Syracuse. Zamora has a 27:6 K:BB ratio in 22.1 innings this season.

Hartford (58-56) 3, Binghamton (58-57) 1  Box Score

Despite recording eleven hits in the game, Binghamton’s offense was limited to just a single run. The team’s lone run came on Krizan’s fifth-inning solo home run. Krizan is hitting .313/.368/.563 with five home runs and an 8:8 K:BB ratio in 26 games since the All-Star break.

  • LHP David Peterson (3-4, 4.14 ERA) 5.0 IP, H, 2 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Ryder Ryan (2-1, 3.60 ERA) 2.0 IP, H, 3 BB, K
  • RHP Joe Zanghi (L, 3-3, 2.52 ERA) 1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, BB, 2 K

Peterson had his second start since returning from injury and was very good, limiting the opposition to just one hit and getting a large number of groundouts. He was on a bit of a pitch count, so he was pulled after five innings and just 63 pitches. Ryan has a 1.40 ERA over his last 10 appearances (19.0 innings pitched).

St. Lucie (65-51) 6, Daytona (56-59) 2  Box Score

  • Blake Tiberi 3B: 2-for-3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, .251/.331/.341
  • Jacob Zanon CF: 3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, K, SB, .252/.314/.368
  • Cody Bohanek SS: 2-for-4, 2 R, HR, RBI, 2 K, .231/.350/.328

The Mets had a solid offensive game, which featured six runs on eleven total hits. Tiberi and Bohanek both smacked their third home runs of the season, with Bohanek’s getting the Mets on the board in the third inning. Tiberi’s two-run shot got the scoring started in what would end up being a four-run fifth inning.

Cavallaro continued his success pitching out of the St. Lucie bullpen and now has a 2.82 ERA over his last ten appearances. He has allowed two runs or less in each of his last five starts. Hernandez has a 2.15 ERA over 16 appearances following the FSL All-Star break.

Columbia (46-67) 11, Greenville (49-67) 7  Box Score

The young trio of Mauricio, Vientos, and Newton led the Fireflies to a dominant eleven run offensive performance. Mauricio and Vientos, in particular, have been heating up this month, with the pair hitting .355/.344/.452 and .407/.467/.741, respectively, so far in August. Brian Sharp also homered in Friday’s game.

James has been solid at limiting runs at times this season, but his mediocre strikeout and walk numbers (28:24 K:BB ratio over his last 10 appearances) make it difficult to consistently shut down the opposition. Hrbek has 37 strikeouts in 27 innings in his first season with the Mets organization.

Brooklyn (30-22) 12, Connecticut (25-28) 1  Box Score

  • Jake Mangum CF: 2-for-4, 2 R, 2B, 3 RBI, K, .261/.350/.319
  • Kennie Taylor RF: 3-for-5, 2 R, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, .310/.333/.517
  • Jose Mena C: 3-for-4, 3 R, 2B, .281/.324/.406

The Cyclones had a huge offensive game that was fueled by an outstanding 10-for-19 performance with runners in scoring position. Every player in the starting lineup had at least one hit in Friday’s game. Taylor has impressed in a limited sample with Brooklyn, with four of his nine hits going for extra bases. He was just a home run short of the cycle on Friday night.

Jones made his return to the Cyclones rotation after suffering an injury during his Opening Night start for the Cyclones back in June. He would pitch two perfect innings in his second start of the season. Gaconi has walked just two batters in 24.0 innings pitched with Brooklyn.

Kingsport (24-26) 8, Bristol (23-26) 6  Box Score

12 of Baty’s 18 hits with Kingsport have gone for extra bases as he continues to flash the impressive power that he was advertised to have. Alvarez has faced his first bit of adversity in professional baseball as he has gone hitless in each of his last three games. Palmer is hitting .389/.425/.639 through nine August games.

Five Kingsport pitchers combined to walk eight batters while only striking out six for the night. De Jesus has had four straight scoreless appearances.

GCL Mets (21-16) 10, GCL Cardinals (17-22) 2  Box Score

After dominating the Dominican Summer League, Berbesi earned mid-season stateside promotion and had his first extra-base hit in this game. Despite gaining some attention for his raw power in extended spring training, Lugo’s double was just his fifth extra-base hit of the season. The Mets offense was helped by six Cardinals errors in the game.

Mets pitchers combined to hold the Cardinals’ offense to just a single hit in the game. Humphreys made his second rehab appearance and his first since June 30.

DSL Cardinals Blue (34-17) 6, DSL Mets1 (27-25) 0  Box Score

Going just 1-for-16 with runners in scoring position doesn’t usually result in a productive offensive performance and it did not in Friday’s game, as the Mets were shut out.

  • RHP Luis Silverio (L, 0-2, 10.95 ERA) 3.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, K

All five Mets pitchers struggled with their command in this one as the team combined to walk 11 batters while only striking out four.

DSL D-Backs2 (37-22) 5, DSL Mets2 (27-32) 0  Box Score

Both DSL teams were shut out on Friday, although the Mets2 only had three at-bats with runners in scoring position as opposed to the 16 at-bats of the Mets1. Campos extended his hitting streak to 5 games.

  • RHP Ronny Rincones (L. 1-1, 1.77 ERA) 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Rincones, who is still just 17 years old, has a 46:17 K:BB ratio in 45.2 innings pitched this season.
