Sunday’s action saw each Mets affiliate win every game they played. Syracuse’s game had to be suspended with Syracuse up in the fifth inning, but Binghamton, Brooklyn, and St. Lucie all won with the Cyclones sweeping a doubleheader.
Among the best individual performances on Sunday were from Colin Houck and Ronald Hernandez, a pair of top prospects who homered in St. Lucie’s victory.
Triple-A
Worcester Red Sox (53-60) 2, Syracuse Mets (64-48) 4
Sunday’s game between the Syracuse Mets and Worcester Red Sox was suspended in the top of the fifth inning with the Mets leading 4-2. The game will resume in September when the two teams meet again.
Jackie Bradley Jr. had a two-RBI triple and Tylor Megill pitched four innings of two-run ball.
Double-A
Binghamton Rumble Ponies (56-48) 6, Somerset Patriots (53-54) 4
- CF Alex Ramírez: 2-for-5, 2 R, SB (32) (.620 OPS)
- RF Matt Rudick: 1-for-1, HR (5), R, 3 RBI (32) (.715 OPS)
- DH Jeremiah Jackson: 1-for-5, R, 2 RBI (47), K (.625 OPS)
- 2B Mateo Gil: 2-for-4, RBI (3), 2 K (.619 OPS)
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-4 in 10 innings. Binghamton went up 3-0 in the first inning but wouldn’t score again until extra innings as the two teams were tied at three after nine innings.
Matt Rudick pinch hit for a rehabbing Starling Marte, who went 0-for-2 with a walk, and delivered a three-run bomb to put the Rumble Ponies up 6-3 in the 10th inning. Somerset scored in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn’t enough as Binghamton held on for the win.
- RHP Luis Moreno: 6 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 6 K (3.84 ERA)
- LHP Daniel Juarez: 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, K (4.91 ERA)
- RHP Joshua Cornielly: 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, BB, K (0.00 ERA)
- RHP Cam Robinson (W, 2-1): 2 IP, R (0 ER), 0 BB, K (3.41 ERA)
Luis Moreno was excellent as the starting pitcher, allowing three runs in just shy of seven innings pitched. Daniel Juarez, Joshua Cornielly, and Cam Robinson combined for 3 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run to finish off the game, giving Binghamton the win.
High-A
Game 1: Hudson Valley Renegades (55-50) 2, Brooklyn Cyclones (50-57) 4
- 1B Junior Tilien: 1-for-3, K (.621 OPS)
- DH D’Andre Smith: 1-for-3, RBI (4), K (.552 OPS)
- SS William Lugo: 1-for-2, HR (5), R, 2 RBI (27) (.626 OPS)
- 2B Kevin Villavicencio: 1-for-2, R (.453 OPS)
The Brooklyn Cyclones defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades 4-2 in the first game of their doubleheader. It was a quiet offensive game as Brooklyn won despite scoring four runs on four hits. It was a come-from-behind victory, as Hudson Valley went ahead 2-0 but Brooklyn scored two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings of the seven-inning affair to secure the win.
- RHP Dakota Hawkins: 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 5 K (4.25 ERA)
- LHP Ryan Ammons (W, 2-0): 1 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K (1.80 ERA)
Both of Brooklyn’s pitchers pitched well in the victory, as Dakota Hawkins fell just one out shy of a quality start. He did enough to keep the Cyclones in the game, and Ryan Ammons shut it down once Brooklyn took the lead by recording four outs without allowing a baserunner.
Game 2: Hudson Valley Renegades (55-51) 1, Brooklyn Cyclones (51-57) 3
- 1B Christopher Suero: 2-for-3, R, K, SB (11) (.646 OPS)
- 3B Junior Tilien: 1-for-3, HR (5), R, 2 RBI (30), 2 K (.631 OPS)
- SS William Lugo: 1-for-2, 2B (10), BB, SB (5) (.636 OPS)
- LF Omar De Los Santos: 1-for-1, 2 BB (.583 OPS)
Game two of the doubleheader saw even less offense than the first game, with Brooklyn sweeping the two-game set with a 3-1 victory. Brooklyn went out in front 2-0 with a two-run Junior Tilien home run in the third inning and added an insurance run on a Christian Pregent sacrifice fly in the sixth. While the offense didn’t perform particularly well in either game, they did just enough to win both of them.
- RHP Jawilme Ramirez: 3 2/3 IP, ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 4 K (3.70 ERA)
- RHP Jordany Ventura (W, 3-1): 2 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 4 K (3.56 ERA)
- RHP Alan Perdomo (S, 2): 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 K (0.00 ERA)
The pitching staff was fantastic in game two of the doubleheader, as Jawilme Ramirez allowed just one run in 3 2/3 innings in his start. Jordany Ventura and Alan Perdomo then shut it down by combining for 3 1/3 perfect innings to close out the game. Ventura recorded the win while Perdomo drew the save.
Low-A
Bradenton Marauders (46-62) 3, St. Lucie Mets (35-71) 6
- LF Yonatan Henriquez: 1-for-3, 2 R, RBI (3), 2 BB, K (.536 OPS)
- DH Ronald Hernandez: 2-for-5, HR (5), R, 2 RBI (35), K (.740 OPS)
- 3B Colin Houck: 1-for-3, HR (5), R, RBI (45), BB, K (.622 OPS)
- 1B Carlos Oviedo: 3-for-4, 2B (1), R, K (.944 OPS)
The St. Lucie Mets defeated the Bradenton Marauders 6-3 for their only win of the series on Sunday. The game was not as close as the score would depict, as each member of the Mets’ lineup recorded at least one hit. The team went up 5-0 within the first three innings before a big Bradenton inning made the game closer, but St. Lucie’s pitching staff didn’t allow them to threaten any more down the stretch.
- RHP Austin Troesser: 2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, BB, 4 K (4.25 ERA)
- LHP Franklin Gomez: 2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, BB, 3 K (3.88 ERA)
- RHP Wellington Aracena: 1 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, BB, 2 K (14.73 ERA)
- RHP Layonel Ovalles (W, 1-1): 2 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K (7.53 ERA)
- LHP Gregori Louis (S, 2): 1 IP, 0 ER, H, 0 BB, K (1.38 ERA)
Outside of a rough outing for Wellington Aracena, the St. Lucie pitching staff pitched exceptionally well in the win. Austin Troesser, Franklin Gomez, Layonel Ovalles, and Gregori Louis combined for 7 1/3 innings allowing just one hit with 10 strikeouts. Ovalles earned the win while Louis, who has been brilliant out of the St. Lucie bullpen, earned his second save of the season.
