Syracuse scored their lone run on a Gosuke Katoh home run in the fifth inning. The 27-year-old infielder has been on a tear of late. Katoh is slashing .348/.444/.826 with three home runs in 23 at-bats since the start of July.

Francisco Alvarez had the only other extra-base hit for the Mets with a sixth-inning double. Mark Vientos struggled in the contest going 0-f0r-4 with three strikeouts.

AA: Portland Sea Dogs (38-41) 7, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (31-48) 4 Box Score

The Rumble Ponies took a 4-0 lead into the eighth inning thanks to home runs from Brett Baty and Brandon McIlwain but Portland would score five runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to hand Binghamton a fourth consecutive loss. Baty is now 9-for-31 with three home runs since the start of July.

Carlos Cortes had a pair of hits, including a double, to extend his hitting streak to five games. He’s gone 7-for-21 in that span.

Jose Butto was excellent Friday, allowing just a run on three hits over seven innings while striking out eight. Butto has allowed two earned runs or less in five of his last seven starts.

The Binghamton bullpen, however, was another story. After Butto allowed a leadoff single in the eighth inning Andrew Mitchell entered in relief, issuing a walk before allowing a three-run home run. Antonio Santos then dumped gasoline on the fire, allowing another two-run homer before giving up two more runs in the ninth.

A+: Aberdeen IronBirds (50-29) 4, Brooklyn Cyclones (37-42) 2 Box Score

  • 1B Joe Suozzi1-for-4, 2B, 3 K, .204/.313/.358

The Cyclones jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after Alex Ramirez tripled with two outs and Nic Gaddis drove him in with a single. However, Brooklyn’s offense failed to get much else going in an eventual 4-2 loss to Aberdeen. Gaddis would also drive in the Cyclone’s second run with a home run in the eighth, his fifth of the year.

  • RHP Luis Moreno(L, 0-4), 6.1 IP, 4 R, 2 ER, 5 K, 3.90 ERA

Luis Moreno was sharp Friday, shutting out the IronBirds for the first six innings. However, he was tagged for four runs (two earned) in the seventh following a Nic Gaddis error. Moreno has allowed just three earned runs over his last two starts (12 innings) while striking out 14.

Dylan Hall has yet to allow a run through his first 6.2 innings in Brooklyn, picking up nine strikeouts.

A: St. Lucie Mets (46-31) 5, Daytona Tortugas (33-44) 4 Box Score

Raul Beracierta powered the St. Lucie offense in the victory going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs. Beracierta now has five hits and two home runs in his last two contests, boosting his OPS to .799 on the year.

Jacob deGrom did Jacob deGrom things in his second rehab appearance with St. Lucie, striking out six in three scoreless innings.

Keyshawn Askew had the unenviable task of following up deGrom out of the bullpen. He’d allow a home run to his first batter faced but would then pitch 4.2 scoreless innings while striking out nine. The 2021 tenth-round pick has a 0.92 WHIP in 32.2 innings this season with a K/9 of 13.78.

Miguel Alfonseca gave up three runs on four hits, including a two-run home run, in the ninth inning to allow Daytona to pull within a run. However, Trey McLoughlin was able to record the final out, stranding the tying run on second, earning his second save of the year.
