Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (13-12) 9, Syracuse (17-11) 1 Box Score

The Syracuse bats fell quiet on Saturday, producing one run on two hits against a RailRiders bullpen game, with starter Shane Green only going three innings before being pulled. The only three Mets to record hits were Rivera, Guillorme and Gomez (who recorded two), so any form of life from the offense was few and far between. The Mets struck out an alarming 14 times.

Coleman labored through his latest start for Syracuse, allowing four to score in six innings. He walked three and allowed a long ball, as he had trouble with his command. Coleman, however, struck out seven and threw 99 pitches over the course of those six innings. Bashlor continued to salvage the beginning of his season, throwing a clean inning with two strikeouts. Burnett and Arquimedes Caminero combined to give up five runs over two innings, putting away any hope of a comeback for the Mets.

Binghamton (14-8) 12, Portland (8-14) 5 Box Score (Game 1)

The Binghamton bats exploded early and often in their seven-inning victory over Portland on Friday night. Barnes led the way with five RBIs on three hits. The Sea Dogs were unable to keep Toffey off the bases, as the on-base machine went 4-4 at the plate. Toffey walked for the 21st and 22nd time this season, tops in the organization. Andres Gimenez hit his second triple of the season, and Patrick Mazeika doubled for the sixth time in 2019. As a team, Binghamton hit an impressive 10-19 with runners in scoring position.

Gonzalez was hit hard by the Sea Dogs, raising his season ERA to 3.93 when it was all said and done. Gonzalez struggled with his command, walking two and leaving two over the plate that resulted in home runs. After laboring through five, he was backed up by a scoreless effort from his bullpen, where Blackham and Conlon (making his season debut) struck out four and allowed no base runners.

Portland (9-14) 5, Binghamton (14-9) 3 Box Score (Game 2)

Binghamton scored its first run in the second game of the doubleheader when Alcantara crossed the plate on a groundout following his leadoff double in the third. The Rumble Ponies scattered six hits, including one from Lee, who is hitting .529 over his last five games.

  • RHP Ryder Ryan (0-1, 7.59): 1.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
  • RHP Stephen Nogosek (0-0, 0.75): 2.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Joe Zanghi (2-0, 0.61): 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K

Ryan was forced into an emergency starter role for the second time this season. In his relief outings, he has a 1.42 ERA. Nogosek and Zanghi continued their stellar starts to 2019.

St. Lucie (15-12) 9, Dunedin (17-10) 3 Box Score

The Mets bats were alive in Dunedin, as they hung a nine-spot on the Blue Jays. Leading the way was Brodey, who has been on a tear to start the season for St. Lucie. Also having great games were Meyer and Cortes, the fruits of the 2018 draft class. Blake Tiberi recorded two hits, as did Luis Carpio.

Smith turned in a stellar outing, getting his team through more than five innings. He allowed just under a base runner an inning and threw 82 pitches. O’Neil and Cavallaro kept the lead where it was, cruising the Mets to victory. Cavallaro is on a quest to straighten out the course of his season after a rocky start, helped his cause with a clean performance, striking out a hitter during his four-out outing.

Lexington (13-14) 5, Columbia (8-19) 2 Box Score

The Fireflies could not mount much offense on Friday, recording just four hits and scoring two runs. No one recorded more than one hit, and Senger was the one Firefly to reach base more than once, as he walked twice. Walter Rasquin drove in one of the two runs on his single, just like Mauricio. The team left 16 runners on the base paths.

Tavares turned in a strong start for the Fireflies, only allowing two runs and striking out seven, but was backed by little run support. Tavares relied upon a mixed bag of ways to record outs, striking out seven, recording five groundouts, and four fly outs. Mitchell gave up two runs in his one inning of work, effectively ending the game considering how the bats had been working to that point. Zabaleta turned in his best outing of the year, striking out three in two innings and allowing no walks.
