Syracuse (61-61) vs. Norfolk (51-70)
Syracuse’s game against Norfolk on Sunday was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on August 17.
Hartford (63-58) 7, Binghamton (60-62) 0 Box Score
- Quinn Brodey CF: 4-for-4, .244/.312/.367
- Gavin Cecchini 2B: 1-for-3, K, .230/.279/.303
- Andres Gimenez SS: 0-for-4, .230/.299/.353
Despite recording eight hits in the game, all of which were singles, the Rumble Ponies were shut out in Sunday’s game. Brodey is hitting .278/.356/.467 since the All-Star break. Gimenez has had an absolutely brutal August, in which he has hit .098/.208/.122, but he has only struck out six times in 14 games, so hopefully he will find some BABIP luck in the near future.
- RHP Tony Dibrell (L, 0-6, 9.73 ERA) 3.2 IP, 11 H, 7 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
- LHP Blake Taylor (0-0, 2.16 ERA) 3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 K
- RHP Steve Villines (1-1, 1.17 ERA) 2.0 IP, 4 H, BB, 2 K
Dibrell’s nightmarish time in Double-A continued with one of the worst starts of his career. The 11 hits allowed represents a career-high, while the seven earned runs are tied for the third-most he has allowed in a start in his career. Over six starts with Binghamton, Dibrell has allowed seven more earned runs than he did in his 17 starts with St. Lucie. Taylor has impressed with Binghamton and this first season as a reliever has represented a kind of breakout for him.
Charlotte (75-48) 7, St. Lucie (67-55) 0 Box Score
- Brandon Nimmo DH: 1-for-3, BB, K, .273/.429/.455
- Dan Rizzie C: 2-for-3, .269/.325/.333
- Blake Tiberi 3B: 1-for-3, K, .254/.336/.343
There’s not much to say about St. Lucie’s offense in Sunday’s game: the team was limited to just five singles and two walks and had just one at-bat with runners in scoring position. Nimmo had his first return to game action in over two months and reached base twice. Tiberi is hitting .333/.435/.462 through 12 games in August.
- RHP Joe Cavallaro (L, 6-4, 3.73 ERA) 5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
- RHP Darwin Ramos (4-1, 0.81 ERA) 1.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, ER, BB
- RHP Conner O’Neil (2-1, 5.10 ERA) 2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB
Cavallaro allowed two earned runs or less for the six straight start and has been surprisingly impressive since the FSL All-Star Break (2.90 ERA, 44 K in 49.2 innings pitched). Ramos’ ERA across three levels this season (1.92) is almost half of his previous career-low (3.43), which came back in 2013.
Columbia (49-71) 6, Rome (56-67) 2 Box Score
- Chase Chambers DH: 2-for-4, R, HR, 2 RBI, .249/.315/.329
- Brian Sharp 1B: 1-for-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K, .206/.280/.354
- Shervyen Newton 3B: 1-for-4, .211/.278/.337
The Columbia offense was able to push across six runs on eight hits in Sunday’s victory. Top prospect Ronny Mauricio has struggled quite a bit recently and is hitting just .216/.226/.275 so far in August. Recent draft pick, Nick Conti, received a surprise call-up from the GCL to Columbia prior to this game.
- RHP Jose Butto (4-9, 3.57 ERA) 2.0 IP, 2 H, K
- RHP Alec Kisena (W, 4-2, 3.67 ERA) 5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 K
- RHP Cole Gordon (1-2, 3.54 ERA) 1.0 IP, 3 K
Butto continues to thrive in his starts which are being shortened to limit his innings: this was his fourth straight two-inning start and he has not allowed a run in any of those four starts. Kisena, although old for the level, has been sneakily good in recent weeks. Over his last 10 appearances, he has a 2.17 ERA and 41:7 K:BB ratio in 37.1 innings pitched. Gordon has 27 strikeouts in 20.1 innings with Columbia.
Vermont (28-33) 13, Brooklyn (32-27) 6 Box Score
- Yoel Romero 3B: 2-for-5, R, 2B, RBI, .269/.329/.404
- Joe Genord 1B: 1-for-3, R, RBI, BB, K, .203/.277/.401
- Ranfy Adon CF: 1-for-2, 2 BB, K, .270/.295/.380
Despite going just 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position, the Cyclones were still able to score six runs on seven hits. Adon doubled his season walk total with two walks in this game (he had just two walks in his previous 27 games). He is hitting .387 with only seven strikeouts over his last ten games.
- RHP Matt Cleveland (L, 3-3, 3.70 ERA) 3.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
- RHP Josh Hejka (1-0, 4.50 ERA) 1.0 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K
Despite poor numbers in this game, Cleveland has had a pretty decent season overall and has set career highs in both innings pitched and strikeouts for the season.
Kingsport (27-29) 6, Pulaski (37-18) 1 Box Score
- Brett Baty 3B: 3-for-4, 3 R, 2 2B, HR, RBI, BB, .192/.317/.417
- Francisco Alvarez C: 1-for-3, 2B, 2 BB, .305/.394/.432
- Cole Kleszcz RF: 2-for-4, 2 R, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, .245/.282/.403
Baty continues to rack up extra-base hits and, with three more in Sunday’s game, 16 of his 23 hits with Kingsport have gone for extra bases. Alvarez has cooled off a bit recently, but he is still hitting .286/.375/.381 with a 6:9 BB:K ratio in August.
- LHP Christofer Dominguez (W, 3-1, 4.02 ERA) 6.0 IP, H, 3 BB, 5 K
Mets pitching limited the Yankees to just two hits for the game, with the lone run against them scoring on an error in the eighth inning. Dominguez tied a season-high with six scoreless innings.
GCL Marlins (25-17) 6, GCL Mets (22-22) 5 Box Score
- Juan Uriarte C: 2-for-3, R, E, .400/.400/.400
- Kenedy Corona CF: 2-for-5, R, 2B, 2 RBI, .292/.397/.425
The Mets pushed across five runs on eleven hits in Sunday’s loss. Uriarte was making his second rehab appearance with the GCL Mets after dealing with an injury since early July.
- RHP Joander Suarez (1-0, 1.62 ERA) 3.0 IP, 2 H, BB, 2 K
- RHP Jhonfran Escalona (L, 2-2, 3.41 ERA) 1.1 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 2 BB
- RHP Noah Nunez (2-2, 4.03 ERA) 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 K
Suarez has gone eight straight appearances without allowing more than one earned run and has a 0.91 ERA over that span. Escalona allowed all six of the Marlins runs to score in the fifth inning as he struggled greatly for the second straight appearance. With 11 earned runs allowed in his last 3.1 innings pitched, Escalona has seen his combined ERA across all levels jump from 0.46 to a still-solid 2.74.
DSL Mets1 (30-28) 9, DSL Phillies Red (36-21) 4 Box Score
- Freddy Valdez RF: 1-for-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, .272/.361/.441
Valdez’s power has really begun to emerge in August, as he is now hitting .275/.351/.549 for the month with eight of his fourteen hits going for extra bases.
- RHP Joon Feliz (1-1, 1.56 ERA) 2.2 IP, H, ER, BB, 2 K
Feliz has struck out 20 batters in his 17,1 innings pitched and has not allowed more than one earned run in any outing this season.
DSL Mets2 (30-35) 10, DSL Rangers2 (29-36) 7 Box Score
- Samuel Marte SS: 2-for-5, R, HR, 2 RBI, K, .226/.330/.367
The Mets were limited to one run for the first six innings of Sunday’s game, but completed the comeback by score nine runs over the final three frames.
- RHP Enmanuel Almonte (W, 2-2, 4.19 ERA) 1.0 IP, 2 BB, K
Four errors resulted in four of the seven runs allowed by Mets pitching to be unearned
