It was a rough night for the Mets’ affiliates pitching staffs, who combined to allow 25 runs in four games.
In Syracuse, Luisangel Acuña and Brett Baty stroked extra-base hits, including Baty’s 15th Triple-A homer. Acuña has had a nice bounce-back month after laboring through July.

Double-A
Portland Sea Dogs (66-45) 8, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (56-53) 2
- 2B Wyatt Young: 2-for-4, K (.719 OPS)
- 3B Jaylen Palmer: 2-for-4, 2 R, HR (9), RBI (.727 OPS)
- SS Jeremiah Jackson: 1-for-4, RBI, K (.610 OPS)
Young has been on an absolute tear in August, slashing .345/.487/.379 (.866 OPS) with three multi-hit games. While he isn’t slugging much—only one extra-base hit in that span—his on-base skills and defensive versatility have earned him a spot on Binghamton’s lineup sheet every day going forward.
- RHP Jonathan Pintaro (4.63 ERA) 6 IP, 4 H, 5 R (3 ER), 0 BB, 5 K (81 pitches/ 58 strikes)
- RHP Junior Santos (5.52 ERA) 3 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Pintaro has been solid for Binghamton after his quick promotion to Double-A. Despite allowing five runs on Friday (two unearned), he continues to have a low walk rate and a decent strikeout rate.
High-A
Brooklyn Cyclones (54-58) 3, Wilmington Blue Rocks (51-60) 2
- DH Estarling Mercado: 1-for-3, R, HR, 3 RBI, K (.953 OPS)
- LF D’Andre Smith: 1-for-4 (.587 OPS)
Estarling Mercado carried the weight in Brooklyn’s Friday night victory over Wilmington. Mercado launched his first High-A homer after being promoted from St. Lucie on August 13th.
- LHP Zach Thornton (2.38 ERA) 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K (59 pitches/ 44 strikes)
Thornton made another successful start for Brooklyn, this time not allowing a run. The 2023 fifth-round selection has made steady progress towards his strike-throwing, with Friday being his best showing–throwing 44 strikes out of his 59 total pitches.

Low-A
St. Lucie Mets (38-72) 1, Daytona Tortugas (54-55) 6
- 1B Yohairo Cuevas: 2-for-3. 2B, RBI, BB (.609 OPS)
- CF Eli Serrano III: 1-for-4
- DH Boston Baro: 1-for-4, RBI (.756 OPS)
Cuevas doubled in the Mets’ sole run on Friday after another sluggish night at the plate for St. Lucie. Cuevas now has three doubles in his last two games.
- RHP Joel Díaz (5.20 ERA) 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K (84 pitches/ 52 strikes)
The 20-year-old right-hander allowed only one run in his five-inning start on Friday–a solo homer to Esmith Pineda. Despite having a rough season after his Tommy John recovery, Diaz could again be a top pitching prospect in the Mets farm system if he can maintain a solid strikeout numbers and quality command.
The Mets DSL teams dropped both their games Friday afternoon. 2023 International Signee Edward Lantigua continued his impressive first summer in the Mets system, collecting another base hit and RBI.
