Gwinnett (37-29) 11, Syracuse (32-35) 4 Box Score

Rivera opened up the scoring for the night with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to give Syracuse an early lead. Unfortunately, from there the Mets offense went completely quiet being shut out for the next seven innings until Rivera drove in Robinson Cano for his third RBI of the game. Brandon Nimmo was scratched from the lineup due to renewed neck soreness and will be re-evaluated today.

  • RHP Anthony Kay: 4.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 6 K, 1 BB, Loss | 0-1, 11.25 ERA, 1.75 WHIP
  • RHP Stephen Villines: 1.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 K, 0 BB | 0-1, 6.75 ERA, 1.94 WHIP
  • LHP Daniel Zamora: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 1 BB | 1-0, 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP

Kay displayed quality swing and miss stuff in his first (AAA) game striking out six batters on the night. He was smacked around for five runs on six hits with most of the damage occurring in the second inning (four hits, three runs). Villines was the bigger concern on the night allowing five runs on seven hits in only one inning of work. It was his second appearance in a row allowing six plus hits and four-plus runs in an inning which has caused his once pristine 1.98 ERA to climb all the way up to 6.75.

Altoona (33-31) 6, Binghamton (33-28) 2 Box Score

  • C Ali Sanchez: 3-for-5, R, RBI(23), K | .275/.341/.336
  • CF Quinn Brodey: 2-for-4, RBI(4), SB(1), K | .185/.207/.185

The bottom half (5 thru 8) of the Rumble Ponies offense racked up ten hits on the night but the top half could not drive them in going 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position on the night. The team also displayed no power as all ten hits were of the singles variety.

  • RHP Harol Gonzalez: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 9 K, 0 BB, Loss | 3-2, 3.39 ERA, 1.08 WHIP
  • RHP Ryder Ryan: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB | 0-1, 6.46 ERA, 1.50 WHIP

Gonzalez continued his solid 2019 season tossing his fifth quality start of the season although he did end up with the tough luck loss. Ryder Ryan was activated from the MiLB Injured List and toss a clean inning of work in his first game back.

Lexington (35-32) 5, Columbia (24-40) 1 Box Score

The Fireflies offense collected seven hits on the night but couldn’t string them together. The team wouldn’t score until the bottom of the ninth inning when Avant drove in Taylor Lane with an RBI single.

  • RHP Christian James: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 3 K, 3 BB | 2-5, 4.42 ERA, 1.44 WHIP
  • RHP Christian Tripp: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 K, 1 BB | 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.50 WHIP

James was fantastic through the first five innings of the game holding the Legends to only one run on three hits. He fell apart in the sixth inning though when the Legends strung together five hits, with a catcher’s interference call on Juan Uriarte mixed in, to score four runs and knock him out of the game. Christian Tripp made his first appearance of the season after spending the first two months of the season in extended spring training and tossed two clean innings of work out of the pen.

Brooklyn (1-0) 5, Staten Island (0-1) 4 Box Score

  • 1B Joe Genord: 1-for-3, 2 R, HR(1), RBI(1), BB, K | .333/.500/1.333
  • 3B Nic Gaddis: 2-for-4, R, 2 2B, RBI(1) | .500/.500/1.000
  • DH Jose Miguel Medina: 1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI(2), K | .333/.333/.667

The 2019 drafted college seniors made an immediate impact in their first game going a combined 4-for-14 with three doubles, a home run, and two RBIs on the night led by Genord’s bomb to open up the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning.

  • RHP Daison Acosta: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 K, 2 BB | 0-0, 2.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP
  • RHP Luis Silva: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 1 BB, Win | 1-0, 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP
  • RHP Brian Metoyer: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 1 BB, Save | 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.60 WHIP

Acosta pitched well in the first game of the season not allowing a hit until the fourth inning of the game. He ran into trouble in the fifth inning after a double, walk, and a balk brought in the first run of the game for the Yankees, but, Luis Silva would come in for relief and closed out the inning without any further damage. Last year’s fortieth round pick, Brian Metoyer, converted the save for the Cyclones striking out four of the six batters he faced to finish the game.

DSL Cardinals Red (6-6) 4, DSL Mets2 (6-6) 2 Box Score

The DSL Mets2 offense had themselves a good night scoring six runs on ten hits including a 4-for-10 performance with runners in scoring position. 2018-19 International Free Agent signing, Samuel Marte, was a home run short of the cycle on the night hitting his second double and triple of the season yesterday.

  • RHP Robert Colina: 2.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 K, 1 BB, Loss | 1-1, 5.06 ERA, 1.22 WHIP
  • RHP Ricardo Rodriguez: 0.0 IP, 1 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 K, 4 BB | 0-0, *INF* ERA, *INF* WHIP
  • RHP Marco Villegas: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 1 BB | 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.88 WHIP

It was a rough third inning on the mound for the young kids down in the Dominican Republic as the Cardinals scored nine runs in the inning to put this game out of reach early. Starter Robert Colina was pitching decently up until this point but a double, walks, a hit by pitch, and a wild pitch caused him to get pulled with the bases loaded. Rodriguez attempted to put out the fire but he allowed all three inherited runners to score and left the bases loaded himself for the next reliever, Melvin Arteaga, who ALSO allowed all three inherited runners to score.
